almost 5 years out and I'm gaining
Hey guys I had my sleeve on 6/26/08. The best thing i have ever done. However i have been gaining some weight back and my blood pressure is spiking. I just joined the gym again last night and plan on going faithfully. However i need some help with food choices. I was doing those frozen WW or Lean Cuisine's but the sodium is not goo for me. I would appreciate any recipes and gym techniques.
80% of weight management is food, according to my surgeon's office. Exercise is very important but you can't exercise your way out of regain.
I don't have suggestions on specific food choices, but my biggest recommendation is to find a site like myfitnesspal (what I use) Livestrong, or I think there are others and plan/log your food for the day. I plan to do this indefinitely because I'm pretty sure if I don't there will be calorie creep in my future.
Here's what I do: every evening I plan the next day's food. That way I can see my calories, protein, carbs, sodium, all that stuff. I allow myself changes during the day, but log them before I eat them. I've found this does two things: helps avoid surprises about my calories for the day and gives me just a minute to stop and think. If I pick up a couple of hundred calorie thing and put it in my tracker, and if I already have my calories for the day planned, I can see I'm going over. Do I want to go over? Do I want to delete something later in the day? What? It sure curbs impulse eating.
I use a smart phone and this takes literally minutes each day using my app.
If I have regain, the first thing I will do is switch back to lean, dense protein and veggies to satisfy me at every meal.
