Daily Maintenance Weigh In - Thursday 1/17

Good morning. Sorry 'bout yesterday.

Today's weight: 134.8

At what point do you guys consider a weight fluctuation meaningful? I never have those situations some folks mention where they weigh 2 lbs more today than they did yesterday, but for example early last week I was a little over 135. Dropped down a few days ago to 133.8 and am now back up to 134.8. I went gradually down over a period of days, and now am going gradually back up, hopefully at least to where I started before this recent drop.

My Fitness Pal charts my weight, and I notice that I do cycle regularly - hit a low, bounce back up as much as 2 lbs shortly afterwards. Very confusing.

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22

175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012

I have to show a trend over an entire month, or at least several weeks running. I am one that does add/drop a pound or two over a day, and up to 3-6+ over a few if I'm having salty foods or no****ching fluids or having my monthly hormonal swing-time.. So, I graph it and if it's running in a line up or down I know I'm going off track someplace. Honestly though, I track and log everything every day- so I usually only have the graph as a visual confirmation as I usually know where the extra comes from..

Most times it's fluid retention (I can tell in the morning, just by looking at my face if I've go****er retention) and sometimes like after a vacation of indulgences and beverages, I know about half is bloat- and half is real.. the bloat falls off within 5 days, the real takes a couple weeks. My hormones do play a big role in this, and I'd bet even in meno/peri-meno, there are fluctuations that drive some shifts, but on a less reliable pattern..

139.4 today and feeling good, so far- avoiding the flu!

Good Morning,

158.8!today. Still going to lose a few pounds for wiggle room, but mostly now it's about increasing exercise. Everyone have a great day - were finally supposed to get to 60 with sun today!

179.4  Still up, but leveling off?

No worries mom - Were all here to take care of each other.

I have been examining differences between when I travel and when I am at home.  THe one thing I notice is the amount of coffee versus clear water I drink.  Lately I have been drinking a lot more decaf coffee at home than when I travel - especially when its cold and grey out.  Does anyone else find that decaf causes you to retain water or gain?

Unfortunately I am one of those that is up and down 1 to 2 lbs a day.  Its frustrating and I want to understand it.  I prefer being at the bottom of my maintenance range not at the middle or top.

179.3 this morning. Mom, you were fine yesterday - no need to apologize.

I have been looking at trends for me, too. If I'm in my range, I'm obviously more comfortable. However, I have noticed, of late, that I am more often in the upper part of my range. One place that I know I need to address, though my addictive side doesn't want to, is eating nuts. I go overboard somedays with how many nuts I eat, though it varies on how much this effects the number on the scale. I think other factors contribute as well, like fluid intake, what else I eat that day, amount of exercise, etc. As Rob mentioned, I do find, if I drink more water than other fluids, my weight may be on the lower end of the range, than when most of my fluids come from decaf coffee and other sources. While I love water, I get so cold, especially in the winter, that I will opt for decaf coffee or tea instead of cold water. What I've been trying to do more is have the water and then a hot drink to warm up afterwards.

If my weight goes up more than 3 lbs, I get worried.  If I start avoiding the scale, I also get worried.  I find that if I start avoiding the scale, my weight keeps going up (which happened when I avoided the scale from August until January!!!).  I do my best when I weigh myself and track my food, daily!

I absolutely agree. When I was morbidly obese I wouldn't even step on a scale at the doctor's office - like if I didn't see it, it wasn't true. I am determined to log and weigh every day just so that I don't get into avoidance mode, which is something I tend to do.

103.6 today, a bit low for me.

My doctor told me that 5 pounds is quite significant and I should mobilize my resources if I go up by that number.  However, I am usually quite static in my weight, so for me, three pounds is significant as long as I can't easily rationalize it with TOM or eating more salt than usual.  I know when I have been eating a bit off program, and my daily charting of my weight tells the tale.

My monthly visitor brings 4-5 pounds. Salt can add 1-2. I hit my lowest weight in Aug but did not want to be that low. I like where I am now, and my weight is stable.
