colonoscopy question
Yes, it's that time again for me! I had my first colonoscopy in my 40's, as I was having issues that luckily weren't serious. It is now 10 years later and it's time again. I'm scheduled for 2/1. My question is, once a liquid diet kicks in, along with a gallon and a half of that wonderful sludge you have to drink, you have to have regular drinks, not sugar free. How do you balance the carbs to not go too high, but ensure you are getting enough to keep blood sugar balanced? Or, do you just put the carb watching aside for that day and follow the plan. The last time, the only thing that saved me from losing the sludge (in the wrong direction if you get my drift!) was to take a sip of the sludge and then a sip of cranberry juice. I had hoped that as my blood pressure is under control now, I could have the 2 glasses of the concentrated stuff, but they are still going to give me the sludge. They now make floavored sludge, but I have to check with my insurance company to make sure they'll cover the extra cost . Any thoughts or experience since the sleeve about this issue? Thanks! Mary
I say do what ever you need to do to get through the procedure and feel OK after - your body is going through enough. When I had mine last year I had to do a 2 step process and found that really, with our smaller stomachs and quick emptying I only needed to drink 1/2 of my second dose and the Dr. said that my prep was perfect! I had an issue with dehydration and them being able to start an IV so next time I will worry more about that than finishing all of the 2nd prep.
Thanks! I kind of figured I would just follow their plan. They did ask if I was diabetic, and I told them that I had been, but haven't needed meds in well over a year, so they aren't giving instructions for that. I wish I could do the 2 dose prep, which is much less, but they are prescribing the sludge. Oh well, I know there are worse things than that!
