Daily Maintenance Weigh In - Monday 1/7/2013

Good morning. Happy Monday, start of a new week.

Today's weight: 135.8

Something a little different today: I know we have a lot of lurkers, probably folks nearing or in maintenance, *****ad but don't post their weight. For the folks in the final stages of loss, any thoughts, tips, ideas you'd like to share?

From me: I recognized early in the loss phase that I was going to need to self-monitor the rest of my life. So I set out to make it as easy as possible (I use myfitnesspal on a smartphone, there are many other options) and to build the outlook that this is just something I do to take care of myself, like showering, brushing my teeth and shaving my legs. I think our attitude toward it determines whether it feels like a burden. To me the key has been to regard it as a part of my life - like a diabetic monitoring their blood sugar...just something I do that keeps me healthy.

What has made a difference for you?

Good Morning!!!  I am 174 this am.  lost 7# for the month of December and 8 inches even with planned indulgences.  Happy Me!

I journal my food as well.  I need a plan for the day ( I usually plan the night before) so I don't stress about what I'm eating and that tends to keep me within my boundaries.  I also have snack/water with me at all times incase I have a schedule change.  I also cook for the week on Sunday which helps me to have a plan.

Have a great week!

100.4 today.

For me, I realized that abstinence from refined cabs was the life change I needed to make.  Does that sound too militant?  Maybe later, down the line, I'll be able to have the occasional pastry and some chips here and there without it turning on the carb monster that lives inside me.  For now though, and for the foreseeable future, clean eating is the plan.

Have a good day all!

Fiona

Hi Mom...

171.2 today, same as yesterday.

What I said I was going to do: Consume 1200c, Burn 1000c

What I did yesterday: Consumed: 1300c, Burned 1100c

What I will do today: Consume 1200c, Burn 600c

-------------------------

Keys to success (so far):  I monitor food intake and calorie burn using LiveStrong (curse you Lance Armstrong for doping!) daily.  I weight daily and I take my BP/RHR daily.

Got the scale going in the right direction again.  166 even this morning.  Still struggling with the 2 lbs gained over the holidays.  I gained them, lost them, and then gained them again.

What has made the difference for me?  Coming here and posting my weight (almost) daily.  This gives me the accountability I need.  Also, My Fitness Pal.  I use it everyday, so when the scale starts acting up, I can look at my food diary for clues as to why.

How do you figure out how many calories you are going to burn in a day?  For exercise, it is pretty easy as MFP has the calculations for that, but what about just living.  How many calories does that burn?  Can I figure that out somewhere?

Have a great day all!

I think the calories burned in "daily living" are categorized as "Basal Metabolic Rate"  or BMR

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basal_metabolic_rate

There are a number of calculators on the internets, such as: http://health.discovery.com/tools/calculators/basal/basal.html

When I say "burn" i mean specifically in exersize over and above BMR.
