food ideas, some weight regain after baby

Hi, I am a bit over 2 years out from my sleeve.  At 1 year post op I found out I was pregnant with my now 6 month old dtr.  I had made it to just about maintenance (within 10 lbs of goal after a 150 lb loss).  Now I am left with another 20 or so lbs from the pregnancy.  I have been exclusively nursing which I was hoping would help me drop them -- but not so much :-(   Anyway, my dietician says to increase my calories by 500 for nursing and to aim for about 90 g of protein.  I know part of my issue is that I am so busy taking care of my baby (and 3 other small kids) that I am just reaching for what is fast.  My carbs are probably too high and protein is too low.  I have a VERY picky sleeve and feel VERY ill/vomit with super dense protein (spent 6 months on TPN after sleeve and have had 3 scopes to have it dialated)   I  also need to get my activity up.  I may be always busy LOL but I am not getting enough TRUE exercise.  Does anyone have any ideas for quick protein based meals that may help me get this last 25-30 lbs off?  I can't dip calories too low or my milk supply drops, but I know I need to get carbs down and that usually helps.   Just don't have much time for lots of cooking!  Any ready made items at trader joes/safeway/whole foods that help you?    Thanks alot,    Amy

Congratulations on Baby and the Weight-loss!!

I would like to see what ideas the Group come up with. I did not have a baby
but I gained back 25 lbs and would like to get a few new food ideas. As I now, do not enjoy cooking so much.

Elina has some great soups and other recipes on her page.  She has one soup called Green Chicken soup, or something like that.  Basically it's just a bunch of veggies cooked and then mashed up and then add chicken.  You can cut the chicken up in small pieces.  I know Elina uses this when she's gained a few pounds or needs to get off the carbs.  I just made a big batch of it today and I intend to freeze some and eat some.  I used the leftover turkey from Christmas dinner.  Can you eat hardboiled eggs?  I generally cook up a bunch and then stick them in the fridge.  This is a great, go-to protein when you are running around taking care of your kids.  Also, cook up chicken breast and again put them in the fridge so you can just grab and eat.  Do you still drink protein shakes?  This might be a way to get your protein up.

I know how tough it can be when you've got little ones around.  We had my daughter's birthday party last night and there were bowls of chips sitting around.  I can't believe how many times I walked in to the kitchen and took a handful of those disgusting chips.  I don't usually have them in the house so it was a special treat.  But, just having them sit out was too dang tempting.  If you set yourself up for success then you will be successful.

Good luck to you and let us know how things are going.

Regarding the Green Chicken Soup recommendation, I do love this soup, but be careful because I believe it is pretty low cal and you mentioned needing to keep your calories up.

Best,

I got pregnant 6 months after my sleeve surgery, and like you, was about 10 lbs away from goal at the time.  Unlike most people, breastfeeding is not a magic bullet for me to lose weight (with my first baby, pre wls, I gained about 20 lbs while breastfeeding).  I found that having snacks like string cheese and nuts around the house really helped me to keep from grabbing bad carby snacks when I was busy with the kids.  Plus, they give the added bonus of some good fats (nuts) and calcium (cheese).  Luckily, I was able to keep my calories pretty low without my supply dropping, but I do think I had to concentrate on my supply more than I did with my first baby.  Foods like oatmeal are also good for helping to keep supply up.  I'm now below my original goal weight (baby just turned 1 in November) and getting ready to try for #3 in the next month or so.

Congrats on the baby, and good luck with the weight loss!  Try not to stress too much, your baby is still young, and your body has been through a lot!

Thank you all for your ideas!   Soup is definitely a great idea.  I have also been doing stuff like string cheese and crustless  crustless quiches...   I realized for now just really cutting out all white stuff, getting my protein shake in the afternoon and getting more exercise will bring about some change...   lost 2 1/2 lbs in 2 days of doing this!   Thanks for the support!    Amy

Heather -- I have been doing the boiled eggs and they have been great!   Before I had Katie the density of the eggs didn't work, but now I am tolerating them and 1 is pretty filling.   Thanks for the idea!   Amy
