Hubby's aniversary
Today is hubby Shrinking Nerd's one year surgerversary. He is down a total of 185 pounds: 40 of that pre op. He weighs in the upper 190's and at 6 feet is happy with it though i think he needs to take off just a few more. But he has done wildly well and looks like a normal person and is able to do so much more than before the loss. He had a setback with a hiatal hernia that developed a few months after surgery but it was repaired by our barriatric surgeon and that has turned out just fine.
He had trouble with his voice due to reflux from the hiatal hernia but that has mostly, (but not fully) cleared up. Anyone else have this? Also he had a beautiful bass singing voice but now he thinks he is a baritone. Anybody else get voice changes?
So we are celebrating with a dinner of turkey bacon. Another day in the life of the formerly obese. This household is down over 300 lbs!!! Feels great.
Diane
Congratulations/Diane to Nerd.
Just read Roundaters post also. Your whole family unit is totally rocking it. I was remembering way back in the day before either of your spouses had contemplated WLS you said his wife and Shrinking used to be eating buddies while you two did your thing. I was wondering if Roundaters wife contemplated surgery also?
Big to all of you.
Ditto Edelu, congrats to the bunch! That year flew by it seems, glad he's feeling great.
On the voice- it can be scarring or just inflammation. My husband had benign polyps on his vocal cord after a bad URI with lots of coughing. His voice changed a lot.. had surgery- and it slowly changed back. Has an ENT checked him out? Irritation can cause the polyps or just swelling..
Thanks for the voice thoughts. He had his throat and esophogus scoped when he was having the hiatal hernia repair. they knew of the voice issues so surgeon and anestheseologist carefully looked at vocal cords and couldn't find anything. So it may just be irritation from the reflux occurring before the hernia repair and will take a long time to settle down. I want him to go to the ENT but he is a procrastinator and they are hard to get in to see in our rural area. I will keep nagging. Also he took voice lessons at one time and I am trying to get him to work with that voice coach again as some vocal exercises may help. So we will see but he has a magnificent singing voice so we want it back. diane
