Who else still has tail bone pain?

Nearly 3 years out from the op and still using shaped cushions for the pain.  Short of another op, anyone have an answer?

Hi there.  If the problem still persists at 3+ years then I will just have to learn to live with it!  Ho hum....

Never had the tailbone problem, but did pass through a nasty lower back/hip issue- I think all to do with shifting leverages/weights and muscle condition. I wonder if building the butt muscle/back muscles could help with this? I've read it can be pretty troublesome. I know if one lady that I think is still active (RNY) that eventually got it shortened, but I'm not too sure it really helped, if I recall. I'd be happy to PM you her user name if you aren't already familiar.

That would be great.  It's not bad enough to force me into another operation, if I was willing to undergo another op I'd be resleeved to regain the initial restriction!  Next year I'm buying another touring motorcycle, so I'll investigate air and gel cushions then.

I would love to hear more about this! I thought it was just me - thought it might have something to do with the weight loss, but had no idea it was a common problem. I am dealing with significant butt pain. I have been going to my chiropractor and she says my sitting bones are inflamed and I have knots in my butt. I find myself standing whenever possible because my butt and hip area is so painful. Not sure if that is the same as the tailbone you are referring to. Why does this happen with weight loss? I get that our bones have been protected by fat for a long time, but shouldn't they toughen up in time?  "Regular" skinny people don't have this problem, do they?

And tell me what your cushion is like, cause I sure need one!

Middle of the butt, towards the rear?  Same problem!  I do stand and walk as much as possible.  I did buy an orthopaedic cushion, which was expensive and not a lot of use.  My best cushion is a wedge of very firm foam, about half an inch thick at the front and 2 -3 inches thick at the back with the tailbone area cut out.  This allows me to sit for an hour or two in relative comfort.  I'm experimenting with a cushion made out of a swimming noodle, but it's a little too firm so I use it with another cushion on top.  I'll post a photo if you like.

I would love to see a photo if its not too much trouble. Thank you Paul!

Will post within the next few days...  Even thin people can have this problem.

My tail bone hasn't been so bad lately, though I have to use a cushion to drive long distances. My spine is the issue for me - it just feels odd (doesn't hurt, just odd) to be able to feel it when I sit in a hard chair. Not used to that.
