Daily Maintenance Weigh In - Monday 10/15
Good morning all.
Today's weight 138.6
I finally bought some sweaters. I had not worn sweaters for several years pre-op because I was so hot natured, especially as I entered menopause. For some reason, even though I'm 18 months post op I never bought any last winter. Had several sweatshirts, and wore jackets and layers, but no sweaters. I love that I can wear the big slouchy sweater look now. Before, even if a sweater was loose up top it caught on my hips.
So now I'm going sweater-mad. I can't get much variety on the bottom; I work in an office but it's in a manufacturing facility. The bottom is pretty much jeans and steel toes every day. I do have steel toe sneakers instead of boots, so it's not as bad as it sounds. But I can add color and variety on the top and I plan to be the queen of the cute sweater this fall and winter.

I used to love sweaters when I lived in Minnesota. But in Texas, when I was overweight they just never were practical. Now I can see me buying a few more (selectively because they still will not be worn much in Austin) since I get cold a bit more often at this lower weight. I am on tamoxifen for another 4 years though, with hot/warm flashes which means layering is my friend. I see this season corduroys are back - still not sure whether to brave them, - my thighs are still pretty "healthy" lol!

I can't do this year's cords because they all seem to be skinny leg. I have disproportionately large calves for my size - they're almost as big as my thighs. They've shrunk nicely and I can now (at BMI 21) finally wear non-wide calf boots, but skinny jeans/slacks or even some regular straight legs are out. If they fit me everywhere else, they're too tight in the calf.
The thigh thing can be as much a matter of build as of weight - it's how your thighs angle down from your hips, which comes down to how wide your hips are. I have very wide hips so I had a thigh gap while my BMI was still in the overweight range. I have a friend here who doesn't have a thigh gap at BMI under 22.

I have pretty much accepted that my thighs will be proportionately good size - that's the way I am built, just makes it difficult with all these skinny styles - if I get them to fit my thighs they will be too big in the hips/waist! I also have well developed calves although I believe they are in pretty good proportion. I remember trying boots on as a teenager and having trouble getting any to fit. Getting closer to a normal BMI just affirms my frame to be in the medium/large --> large range (it wasn't just an excuse when I was heavier). Still need a large in jackets mostly because of my arms being larger (surgery in my future maybe?) and longer as well as broad shoulders.
135.5 this morning. I went to a tiny house workshop over the weekend, it was pretty interesting. After I retire to Oregon I want to build a tiny house as a ski house close to Mt. Hood. Looks like I can do it myself (with some strong friends occasionally) for about 20K.
I love sweaters, too. I bought a couple shrugs because they looked stupid when I was fat, a tiny sweater on a big torso, but now they look cute and cover up my bat wings. They also add a layer of warmth.
