Neither can I (stevia).. really wanted to.. just can't.

I had been doing some digging around on sugar alcohols after I got some Chocoperfection bars to sample. They were fantastic (not a fan of the milk- dark is great!).. esp the mini-mint ones, think Andes mints but a slightly higher melt point. The health claims made me start digging.

They are made with the same sugar alcohol and prebiotic fiber blend. I don't completely buy into the hype much past that it's much less damaging to my health to have a square or two of these rather than some other real chocolate bar.. and may have a little gut benefit but I wouldn't go calling this a health food and start eating a bar a day.. certainly good for them though if I did ;)

Plus the dang little mints, in perfect VSG sized wrappers are spendy little buggers.. so I'm being a squirrel with them.

OMG, those bars look good!  I think I'd eat a bar a day though, lol. So you're saying that Swerve is the same as their 40 something dollar per bag sweetener. That stuff is expensive.

I wouldn't say it's the same exact since who knows what one may do differently blending or processing - but I know the sugar alcohol is the same as is the inulin.. I checked out the reviews on Netrition, and it was in way in favor of Swerve.. so something is different, prob the ratio, and someone said in another comment that they now add stevia(?) which would explain the bitter comments..

The $42 price is for two bags of Sweet Perfection, but Netrition sells them per bag at 19ea.. Swerve is $13.. Plus the low-carb bloggers I follow have fallen head over heel for this stuff, and they bake a lot more than I do!

Bone to pick,

Choco what? Chocoperfection? Dark Choco what?

OK so i googled it and up floated these bars on little angel wings, Dark chocolate almonds, Raspberry, mint. holy scmooley, what's a girl to do. I blame you. Yes, if I'd never read and you'd never written i would still be in the dark, blissful in my ignorance...but now...now...there are so many lovely delights in my shopping cart. i have had to walk away from my shopping cart...but i know it's there and i know the hedonistic delights awaiting me...oh what to do, what to do? Ten pounds to goal.
i have a vision on me, plopped down, legs akimbo, on my living room floor, up to my oxters in chocoperfection wrappers. Just the wrappers.

Oh Jo, Jo...what did i ever do to you to deserve such sweet perfection torture?

I humbly beg forgiveness, not for any damage done to your pursuit of goal, that's between you and.. well, you.

Only that if you had such a wild night of sheer abandon, you might be stuck in the bathroom later, uh.. repenting? I won't tell you about the caramels.

Ok,

So the bathroom image dried up the dream somewhat....not totally but enough to sleep on the decision.

You're forgiven...kinda.

I love Swerve, but I just wanted to add that if you find Stevia to be bitter, you may have just tried the wrong brand.  I bought some myself (probably bought the cheap generic brand) and found it completely nasty, and wrote it off as a sweetener.   But after I discovered a few low carb sugar free bloggers, I began to learn that it's all about how the Stevia leaf is processed, and some companies do a better job than others.  NuNaturals is supposed to be good, and I like Truvia as well, but it's pricey.  Stevia and Erythritol also tend to balance out each other's negatives (Erythritol can have a mouth-cooling effect, although Swerve seems to have found a way to avoid it...).

Oh my those muffins look yummy!

I've tried both NuNaturals and Truvia (which I think is a blend of stevia and erythritol).. Truvia is better than any other stevias I've had, but I still can taste the stevia.. I'm just weird with it- I have friends that swear they can't taste any bitterness, but I can pick it up.. and I use it mostly in desserts and my coffee, and I can't have my coffee being "off".. or I get really grumpy! I live for my morning cup of coffee. I even notice a slight aftertaste with Splenda, but I'm used to it..

I'm pretty sensitive to sweeteners.  i even stopped drinking coffee because i couldn't stand the sweeteners.  There's only a couple of the Torani flavors i can deal with.  But since I've found "Stevia in the raw" I've been golden.  Mind you I've never baked with it but it's my go to.

I had the Shirataki carbonara tonight and it was great.  I washed them a lot and i opened the packet this morning washed them and left them in clear water in the refrigerator.

They were chewier for sure but to fix that craving and there were so many onions and garlic and bacon and parmesan, it was divine. Also i kept thinking as i was eating it i kept thinking, this is 2 carbs 20 cals and it's filling my up.  so i have a new addition to the lexicon.  Also i had it 3 hours ago and I'm still full, not uncomfortable but satisfied.  Love finding something that works.

Have not tried that stevia, but I will keep an eye out for it..

Skipped the squash? Glad to hear you like the shirataki noodles too. I find them fun to eat, but haven't sauced them yet.
