Are you getting enough protein? approx 80 grams/day?

How are your labs? Vitamin and mineral deficiencies can cause hair loss i.e. iron. If your thyroid is low, you can lose hair. Stress, medications, surgery, illness, low protein can cause hair loss

Have you seen your PCP?

First of all - - - WOW!  You lost all that weight.  Congratulations.

Now...the hair.  It's not unusual to lose for several months.  From what I understand it's due to the anasthesia that was administered.

I'd had another surgery one year prior to my VSG so it put even more strain on the old follicles and I lost gobs and gobs of hair for what seemed like many many months.   Take heart, though, it won't last too long and it'll grow back even better.  I took 5000 of biotin in the morning and again in the evening.  It sure made my nails wonderful and I had to shave my legs almost every day - got lots of extra facial hair as well.  Oh well!!!

A little less hair is much better than all that extra weight, isn't it?  And it's a relatively small price to pay.

When were your last labs? Hair loss this far out can be due to low protein.. Have you had any serious illnesses (even a bad flu) 3-4mo ago? If not, and if you haven't had bloodwork in the last few months- I'd be getting in to your PCP for a check on your levels.

All checked. I didn't have any illnesses. I have joint affecting lupus very mild but it's been stable for years

I saw my pcp as my surgery was almost 5 years ago. Protein and all levels normal. Sorry I left that off. I haven't been getting as much protein as I used to but my blood level was good. I admit I have not been journaling so  I cannot tell you the exact number I have been getting but I am journaling now.

It may be an effect of a temporary low-time when you weren't feeding yourself too well (just saw the post about the slider carbs..)

If all vite levels on your labs and such were good, I'd say keep at the shake a day (and tracking) and give it a few weeks to stop. Do you track your own labs? It's a good idea.. my Dr has a habit as many do, to not really note anything off until it's really OFF.. but if you are getting your results, you can watch for trends in your levels. Good luck! Oh, and I also shed after major emotional stresses.. so maybe?

Thank you!  I will get a copy of my newest labs. I have a lot of the others. I have been under a lot of stress but I usually am. And as I said its been months now. I will keep the protein up and keep journaling.

Whenever I lose hair, it's because my ferrtin drops below 35. Now 35 is within normal parameters but apparently it's too low for me.

You need to get your labs done and see any place where you can make improvements. Just taking random supplements hoping it will help can actually be dangerous because some supplements can be taken to toxic levels. Plus, if you are losing hair because you need more zinc, eating more protein isn't going to help that.
