Ugh...Embarrassing Moment
So, I had a bit of an embarrassing moment today and I am not sure if any one here can relate, but wanted to share.
So since my surgery, my blood sugar runs pretty low and my doctors have diagnosed me with hypoglycemia. My brother who has never had a significant weight problem was also diagnosed in his younger years as borderline hypoglycemic. So, I don't know if mine was always there and I was just always eating so much that no one ever noticed or if it is a new post-op condition.
So anyway, I've discussed this with my surgeon and my PCPs. I recently relocated and both my previous PCP and this PCP felt it would be best monitored by diet by making sure I eat every couple of hours.
So...(can you see where this is going?) I got up early this morning and ate a small breakfast. I got caught up with some work stuff and then ran out to register my car and get a new driver's license in my new state.
I'm waiting in like about 10 minutes, then I get up, I'm almost done with the registration process when the woman helping asks, "Are you okay?"
The next thing I know I'm flat on my back on the ground looking up at some guys (off duty Fire/EMT people that happened to be there registering their boats) asking me my name, if I know where I am, etc. etc. And I was sweating significantly.
Ugh...it was so embarrassing. I ate a couple of dum dum suckers they had and felt fine, but they still had to call the paramedics and police who had to run through some tests including blood sugar (which was about 83 after the dum dums).
After I refused to be taken to the hospital, I still had to get my new license! I went up to get that going and then we got to a question about, "Do you suffer from epilepsy, convulsions, black-outs, or a heart condition." I was like, "Never except for in your lobby a few minutes ago." LOL Oh geez...
Needless to say, I will be more careful about keeping snacks with me and eating by the clock because with my lack of hunger, it is easy for time to get away from me.

I am also diabetic, and although since the sleeve I haven't had any issues I still check my sugars now and then...however I always carry with me sugar pills or a snack because I find that happens to me alot where I am in the middle of a situation where I need to eat something and don't have the time...etc... hope your feeling better!
Take care!

Life is full of challenges...we take things one step at a time...
I really don't know much about diabetes as I've never had it and no one in my immediate family does, but I know diabetics have to take measures to control their blood sugar levels as well.
I wonder if my PCP would feel its appropriate for me to have a blood sugar monitor after today. Although, I'm not sure it would make much of a difference as I felt fine until it hit me and I know for me the answer is just to try and eat more frequently.

You must permanently change your lifestyle if you want your weight loss to be permanent. You can do it!
The paramedics did take my blood sugar. I think it ws about 83 or 85. My Blood pressure was exteremely low.
I can honestly say that I was the best dressed person in the ER that night.

My lowest read was 53. I've never passed out but I get super shaky, light headed and sweaty. I have learned that I have to eat. I was trying to go hours without nutrition and it didnt work for me.
I now eat every 2-3 hours. I cannot skip/miss a snack/meal. My BS crash quickly with exercise so I have to eat a snack/meal before a workout. Once I figured out how to control it. It really is a non-issue for me. It is easily manageable.
I also keep a snack size baggy of almonds in my purse at all times just in case I'm out and about longer than anticipated. They have come in handy several times.
Good luck on finding your resolution. Stay on top of your food and always plan for the unexpected. It really can be a lifesaver!!
Well not exactly the same as I think in my case it's low blood pressure, but I want to share as it may help you and others.
I fainted in April at Target. Ended up in the ER. They had to staple a cut in my head. I ended up with incorrect smell and taste. (anosmia/parosmia) which is kind of turning my life into hell.
At ER they always say it's either dehydration, orthostatic hypothension or something similar, etc., as they don't know how to really diagnose these things.
After a doctor peregrination, I ended up in a neurologist who did two things that I was sceptic about but that ended up kind of curing me being dizzy whenver I stand up:
- he told me to have SALT with 3 meals a day. YES, salt!
- he told me to take magnesium oxide 250 mg twice a day.
The second specially influences my dizzyness. When I don't take it I feel I'm going to faint constantly. I read that 90% of world population has magnesium defficiency and don't know...
Sometimes I wonder if this is all caused by the surgery :(
ps: I also eat something maximum every 3 hours otherwise I feel really bad.

The other thing that was scary was that at first when I heard people talking to me again, I couldn't see them. I don't know if my eyes were closed or if I just couldn't see.
Anyway, very odd. I have definitely been more careful about eating frequently this week!
I'm glad you and your doctor found something that would help you.
