Really?? You just said that??

Every Thursday afternoon my husband and I go to our local pub with some of his coworkers.  As word has caught on, more and more retired Navy personnel have started showing up.  (My husband retired from the Navy in 2005 and now works in a naval shipyard, so lots of retired and prior military members).  Anyway, this has led to some interesting conversations with men who used to know me when I was fat.  Yesterday, a man we socialized with about 10 years ago was talking to Dan.  I started talking and he turned to me and asked who I was.  Husband chuckled and said my wife.  I started joking that we've been married 25 years so I'm not a new wife.  Anyway, this dunderhead blurted out "Well, I knew you when you were as big as a house."  You could have heard a pin drop.  The whole table just gasped and stared at him.  My husband was incensed.  I just blew it off and started talking to his girlfriend.  Really???  You just said that to me??  

and I am sure you thought he was as stupid and rude as ever. Unfortunately there's no surgery for that! Btw Congrats on your weight loss, you look great

 WOW!!! There are no words for stupid and ignorant. A prime example of "Foot In Mouth Disease." Jeez, the guy is obviously clueless, in more ways than one. I'm sorry that you had to experience that.

You have to be patient with people.  He is obviously totally clueless and classless.  Nothing you can really do.  I feel so sorry for his girlfriend, how embarrassing for her to be with someone like that.

On of my neighbors told my husband... she (me) keeps gettng smaller and you keep getting bigger.

OK...I don't know what's wrong with me here....but I would have thought that it was funny and would have laughed my ass off.  Then I might had said "yes, I was as big as a house back then, and you were ugly....wait.....and you still are.....then I would have laughed some more.

 I love that your husband was incensed...that is some good husbandly support.  Those "hear-a-pin-drop" moments are so awkward.  Sounds like you handled it with tremendous grace.
