My trainer kicked my butt and there is nothing left now.

I think I over did it today.  I worked out like a crazy woman with my trainer today, lifting, squatting, lunging, lifting again and then we repeated it all two more times.  Then I decided that it would be a great idea to go for a run.  I am an idiot.

All day long I have had no energy at all.  I am completely wiped out and could just sleep all day.  This can't be good.  I know that I am supposed to ease into these things, but I seemed to have missed the memo and seriously over did it.  There are parts of me that hurt that I didn't even know I had, and that's today, I am scared what tomorrow will be like.  I called my trainer and she ordered me to take tomorrow off.  I think I seriously need to work on this whole balance thing.  On the positive note, I am pretty sure I have worked of the Maui extra pound today.  :)

Hmmm, well you probably over did it. Seems like anything you decide to do you do it well. A good thing. Just don't hurt yourself!!!   And I am sure the Maui pound will soon be a thing of the past. I am so pround of you for becoming a work out fiend. There is hope for the rest of us slugs!!!   Diane

Maybe we're all just a little OCD...ya think?  Thank goodness you've chosen working out to be OCD about...I worked out in the gym with DH one time and couldn't move for two days so I hear ya...that really hurts!  On a lighter (pardon the pun) note, I'm sure that Maui pound will be gone today.  Here's a hug without touching ur parts you didn't know you had...LOL!  Take it easy today sunshine!

You gotta give yourself rebuild time!  You never feel exercise when you're exercising.  My exercise physiologist told me that the harder I work out every week, I need to also increase my rebuild times.  If I kill it during the week - I do no formal exercise at all on the weekends.

What is it we tell the newbies, Learn to Listen to your body?  Just as important for the vets sometimes too!

Elina,

I know you are gonna be hurting, but I am so proud of you for taking this bull by the horns, you are doing a great job and exercise is not a bad addiction to have! Take some ibuprofen and a day of rest. That Maui pound will be history, or maybe even muscle!

Ibuprofen and a day of rest. Never pays to hurt yourself because you have to take more time to recover.
I did the same thing the other day. Got crazy with the weighted squats and now my quads hurt. Had to take 2 days off.
It's awesome that you are getting into the exersize stuff.
Keep it up, just tone it down a little lol.

This is going to sound scary, but..... Eat. It sounds like you need some fuel.

Your body needs  protein, calories, and carbs to rebuild the muscles you've torn down. You're lean -- don't have a lot of fat to burn. If you don't get carbs to replenish your glycogen, your body converts the protein you eat rather than using it to build muscles.  Protein converts more slowly than carbs, so your energy level won't rebound as quickly.

I do 'active rest' usually walking or doing something very light on my 'rest' days just to keep my  metabolism primed and my muscles from getting too stiff; however, I also eat 1500-2000 calories on those days, 120-150g protein, 100-120g carb.

I have found the same thing to be true. Carbs are not always the devil, when used correctly.

Oh, and a bath in Epsom salts helps to draw out the lactic acid from the muscles.

Hmmmm..... I'm sorry you are feeling so sore! I am kind of chuckling, though, because both Gabbi and Kelly timidly followed up Dr. C's advice with that it should be a gradual increase. Guess you didn't hear that part! LOL!

Remember the cardio should be at a lower level and then you gradually build up and push through the barrier. You know you have no problems with the HIT work you're doing!

Take a rest day and make sure to eat. You need to rebuild and restore. Only way to do that is with food and physical rest!

Take care friend!

My "OMG WTF did I do" routine - definitely eat - bump up the protein a lot and add a few extra carbs for muscle repair.  And then stretch, stretch, massage, ice, ibuprofen. Take it easy but I find if I remain sedentary for long periods after I torture myself, I get really really stiff and it takes me longer to recover so just make sure to keep up some light activity.

Balance, moderation - ehhh all overrated anyways, right?
