Room for improvement! BodPod test done~

Found out a few things.. one being, my home scale is not too far off the mark! Though it does vary a bit from measure to measure if I hop on and off.. but for tracking trends as I go it will suffice just fine..

On their scales & BodPod measures, compared to home- just jumped on, same suit, no changes:

5' 6.5" (I'm still going to stretch it and say 5'7".. that half-inch is important to me dammit!!)

147.828lbs/147.8 (home)

27.8%BF/27.6% (home)

72.2% fat-free mass

41.124lbs of fat/40.8lbs (home)

106.705 fat free mass (bones, muscle, water..)

Per the facilities sheet, I'm in the moderately lean category, on the high side of it- as it ranges all the way from 22.1-30%.. which is much higher than many tables show.. I thought most capped it at about 25% (edited, I was incorrect) as the average side of healthy for women, and I positively want to be UNDER 25%. Def room to drop another 10-15lbs of fat easy.. Well, not easy.. but you know.

Going to the trainer on Tuesday, if we mesh well- I'm signing up for a 12wk commitment. I am going to start tracking my BF% closer now, vs just lbs on the scale. Looking forward to this next challenge for sure!!

Ok, edited.. I'm in the "average" range now for a 39yr woman, just outside "ideal" by a little per this chart.. but still, is it wrong to pursue "lean?" I think I'd like lean.. I think. I know I'd be unhappy at any higher BF%, and for me, it would def be overweight, regardless of the charts.

It sounds like you can be pretty confident in your home equipment and that you're doing fantastic! Big congratz!

27.8% Body Fat is not bad at all. Ideally, you want to be in the 20 to 25% range from what I've read. Striving for lean is good.

That's what I'm trying for - lean and above average fitness level. I'm 48 and at 18.5% Body Fat I'm still just a tad high to get into that range. My original goal was just to be under 20%, but once I got there I revised. I'm striving for the 15-17% range for me. Will get tested today again at the gym. I test monthly there and then once every 3 months in the mobile hydrostatic tub thingy!

I just had mine done too!  Very cool to finely have the results.  It was higher than I hoped but at least I now have a point where I know where I'm at and where I can work to improve.  My body fat % was at 28.2%  Higher than I hoped but I know I still have quite a bit of squishy fat, especially on my belly and thighs.

What are you doing for exercising?  I lift about 2-3 days a week and then have a day or two of just cardio.

Hi Heather- same thing here, belly mostly, and some thighs!

Up till now it's been a non-formal routine of hiking, walking, putting my treadmill in a high incline and power walking on that and light weight work at home- my weights only went up to 15lbs.. and using my bodyweight for floor work.

Now, it's going to get switched up a bit. Meeting a new trainer on Tues, but they usually do heavier HIT weight work 1x-2x a week, and I'd imagine recommend non-lifting activity on my own for general health.. for me, nothing beats hiking for a few hours in some hilly place.

Mine was higher than I hoped as well,  26.4% Body Fat. For a man Moderately Lean is 12 - 20% and Lean is 8 - 12%.

One of my goals is to increase my strength. Starting a resistance training program via my Total Gym. My new goal will be to replace the Fat with Lean Muscle.

Planning on repeating the Bod Pod test in a few months to track my progress.

Even though it seems my home scale matches pretty well, I too plan on getting another test once I'm at a place where I level out again just for the before/after comparisons.

I had a conflict as well. My doctors scale showed 18% body fat (a week before my bodpod test). My home scale showed 27%. I wanted to know which one was closer so I had the Bodpod test. I was surprised that my home scale was more accurate. My doctors office said they had their scale calibrated on a regular basis.

Was hoping my doctors scale was more accurate. Oh well!!!

I'm impressed that your home scale tracks Bod Pod so closely.  I am in the market for a new one.  Can you share the make and model of yours?

Mine DOES vary, depending on hydration- it can range from high 25 something to 29 at times! Doing it first thing may have been the trick as I was likely a little dehydrated.. but I'm going to use it to track trends and average the weekly numbers for a monthly BF% number.. It's a discontinued Weigh****chers model WW67T, Conair makes it.
