Old lady exercise

So I totally understand the importance of exercise but I have never been very good about formal exercise. At various times throughout my life i have had periods of regular exercise with weights, swimming , walking or whatever but eventually I get bored and quit.

Now i have a little bone thinning and really gotta do something. Yesterday I went to a free osteoperosis prevention exercise class at a community center 8 blocks from my house. Its gentle work with weights and run by a physical therapist. It feels like just what i need - convenient, adjustable to my level of need etc. The only thing is I look around and everyone there seems like a million years old!  But they are all doing this stuff, many with more weights than me. And hardly anyone obese.   So I guess I will keep going to old lady class. Maybe I will grow some muscles.  Today i feel it a little in my legs.    Diane

Enjoy the soreness!

I want to be one of those ladies in their 80's, wiry, strong and still moving a mile a minute and getting down and gardening without problems.

Best thing you could be doing! Thought about taking up walking with the BTs?

OT: Do you know Jim Brennan or Connie Bartlett? Both are BT breeders in the Petaluma/Santa Rosa area.

i have met connie. don't know jim.  yeah, i walk the old girl as often as i can and take her to the beach as she is reliable off lead. my male is not so reliable so he doesn't get to go as much. if only i could make him understand that he could run free if he would come when called.  there are endangered birds nesting in the dunes and dogs have to stay out of there. plus there are horses.   diane

My opinion..... Keep up with weights, get to where you are lifting heavier weight about 3x a week. As for cardio, if you get bored just keep switching things up, try new things, walking, yoga, bike, classes, swimming. Just make a commitment to do something even if it's just a short session. But the weights are the best and most important. Building muscle mass is very good.

Ditto to lifting weights. It is the best thing that you can do for your bones and lean muscle mass.
