Questions as I close in on goal/maintenance time.
Thank you Gail! I didn't realize we shared the same height. I hope that I am as successful as you have been. My doctor originally recommended 100-105 for me - but I think in my head that the number just sounds sooooo low. I haven't weighted that since I was probably 13-15 somewhere in there. or even younger - I honestly can't remember 20+years ago lol. I am going to take all the new tools I have learned and keep using them.
It is very common to have stress about maintenance...it's tricky, since most of us have dieted a lot, some being very good dieters and losing weight, but never could maintain it!
I yo-yoed for decades...I'm still concerned about regain.
I hit goal of 140 in December, and have gone up and down since then by a few pounds, now mostly staying in the 134 range...my lowest point after surgery was 130 back in April.....at first I was anxious, that I'd lose too much and wanted weight loss to stop...then I was anxious that I would gain it all back....now I'm feeling like maybe I should try to lose a few more pounds...go figure!
You may be really scared at the lower weight for awhile, but then it becomes normal, and you realize you could go lower without looking anorexic! We are just not used to what is a normal weight for us.
Anyhoo....I am maintaining now at about 1800 calories on most days, with a few days at about 2200 cals. I did exercise a lot and do weight training...when I wanted the weight loss to stop, I cut way back on the exercise, because I just couldn't eat enough calories without eating junk food. I added in a lot of nuts and cheese instead and still had the occasional chips and candy...I guess my metabolism improved a lot...durin weight loss phase, I was at around 800-1000 calories once I could actually eat...the first couple of months, it was more like 400-600.
My goal is to be healthy also...not to be waif like or frail....so I try not to freak out about the scale, and concentrate on gaining lean muscle and losing body fat, eating nutritiously for the most part...I don't log daily, but I do when my weight creeps up to see where I'm at calorie wise...it is a big science experiment like someone said! It is really weird, because I'm always surprised I can take in so many calories now!
It seems pretty effortless to stay at this weight now, so I just eat when hungry, concentrate on protein and check up with the scale periodically to see what's up....but if I try to lose more pounds, it may be difficult...my body just kind of settled here...I even upped my exercise this week back to 6 days, and I didn't see a change on the scale, (well I actually went up a pound!) must have been hungrier and ate those extra calories burned....oh well....
Hang in there...just be vigilant...and try not to stress too much....I say this as one who does stress! LOL>
