What would he say?
As I have mentioned before, I am going on vacation to Maui in a little while. I am at my goal weight now, but I anticipate that I will gain a bit, maybe as much as five pounds, while on vacation. So for those that know him, what do you think Dr. C would tell me to do? Should I lose a few pounds before the vacation, to have the cushion? Should I enjoy myself and take the pounds off when I come back? Or should I moderate my eating during the vacation? ( This last one is by far my least favorite alternative). What do you guys think.
I don't know Dr. C, but I gotta say your least favorite would be my immediate choice (and in fact was my choice when I went on vacation the first part of July).

Yes, but I don't want to do that one. (stamp foot here). :) I want to go on vacation and have my yummy food and crazy Hawaiian drinks. Sigh. I might just have to follow in your footsteps. The truth is that most of the time, I would order fish in Maui anyway, it's mostly the drinks that have me concerned.
I actually lost weight while on vacation, and I didn't consciously 'moderate' my eating. I was active, busy, and ate mostly local fresh food including some pretty awesome fresh mussels in PEI and some awesome local cheeses.
I went for protein first, but that's so ingrained at this point, it's not conscious. . I don't really eat bread or chips (my sleeve doesn't like bread at all), but I did have wonderful ice cream cones and tasted other desserts that my husband had. By the time I would get done with a meal, I could only have a taste.
I did log everything, though, so that may serve to moderate what I eat subconsciouly. Just as a note to the Canucks out there, I average 3 extra-large 3 cream/2 splenda coffees a day at Tim Hortons. Tim's chili was also my first meal in Canada while we drove from Halifax to PEI.

I'm going to vote with the other two - Be mindful of what you eat and drink. Enjoy yourself, but be aware that you WILL be more active than normal while on vacation. I really don't see you going to hawaii and staying in your room with a book - good or otherwise. That may give you a little extra room to explore some fruity drinks. IF you are really worried about the calories, get the drinks virgin!

Or, have your cake and eat it too. You can eat whatever you want as long as you promise to burn it off :) Okay, that's my sadistic approach - i'd give up 2 hours a day for exercise to enjoy the luxury.
Realistically - how about a few planned (or unplanned?) treats/meals without going all out crazy, and then mostly moderation for the remainder.
