Water weight and how to get it to move or prevent it..?

Anyone else out there a sponge? I get edema frequently, nothing severe- and I have a PRN script for lasix that I prefer not to take save for those times when I cannot see the bones in my feet.. that happens very rarely now, last time it was when we were traveling and living in the hot weather sans a/c for a few weeks. I shed nearly 10lbs in 2 days, that was extreme.

I can get it from the usual suspects- sodium bump, heat, or occasionally if I overdo carbs, and of course hormones. I do try to intake 100oz+ clear fluids a day, and move.. and keep my feet elevated if I'm not moving.. but any other suggestions are welcome.. it's something I've always dealt with- all other body systems (heart, kidneys, liver a-ok) I just retain water very easily.

Would love to hear what other people do. Every time I fly cross the US I retain water for days and days- sometimes the entire trip. Don't know if it's the humidity to which I'm unaccustomed being from arid CA! I pushed the water yesterday, too, but my ankles are still looking like "cankles"! Hate that!!!!!!

Wish I still had some Maxide!

Maybe I'm oversimplifying, but I was always told to release water, you have to drink even more, like 150 oz.

I hope you get it under control soon!

I have major issues with fluid retention (picture attached from my vacay -- gnarly legs visible) due to a skin condition related to Graves' Disease (the elephantistic form of pre-tibial myxedema.) I have to be careful about skin break-down because I get cellulitis and scar tissue creates new lesions. I can't wear compression stockings or boots which you might want to try, but here are a few of the things I do:

1) I wear running shoes and ankle length socks, particularly while traveling. I wear them at work, etc., although I keep a pair of dress shoes in my desk for customer visits, etc. The compression helps keep fluid from accumulating. Sandles, flip-flops, etc., are cooler, but I pay a price for them. I was wearing some TEVA's in the photo to go whitewater rafting. Otherwise, I would have had on running shoes.

2) I sleep with my feet elevated.

3) I take a potassium sparing prescription diuretic, HCTz

4) I get up and walk at work for 10-12 minutes at a fast pace. It's not a 'workout' per se, but the compression of muscles in legs helps keep water from accumulating in tissues.

5) Eat protein - I am over 100g a day, every day. If you dont' eat enough protein, water goes into your tissues

6) I drink a lot -- the more I drink, the less fluid I retain.

7) I watch my sodium. I try to stay under 2g of sodium a day.

8) Elevate my legs during the day as much as I can and I try not to cross my legs.

Thanks, Gail.  I appreciate it. I sometimes have a tough time seeing past the gnarly legs, lol.

You do look fantastic! Thank you for the suggestions! My mother had to wear those compression stockings for similar reasons.. I did learn the hard way while on vacation in the Caribbean about the downfalls of sandals and heat/foot swelling.. Water balloons. Very uncomfortable pitting edema. Sneakers and short socks def helped, and once I was home and done with all the crazy travel, all that extreme water weight came off, now I just have my usual 5lbs float to deal with. I do keep my protein up around 100g/day, and sodium under 2000mg, and will be getting more labs done soon.. just because it is time. This Summer's extreme temps (100's to mid-high 90's for over a month) is not helping!
