One of my surprises on my birthday, were tickets for Maui. We are staying in Lahaina, in one of the resorts.  We haven't been to Hawaii since our honeymoon and I don't remember much of the Island from that trip.  :)  I would love any advice, places to see, things to do, music spots, or just any good info would be much appreciated.  Thanks guys.

We just did Maui (and the Big Island) in December. It was fantastic! I'll have to dig up my notes and see if there are any worthwhile details to send you. Overall, we enjoyed hiking Haleakala during sunrise, all the great beaches, whale watching, the fresh fish... and we did the Road to Hana - one of those things you do once and then check it off the list!!

Congrats on that great birthday surprise and have a wonderful time! We also stayed in Lahaina... a perfect homebase in Maui.

If there are any treasures in those notes, I would love to hear about them.  I am really looking forward to being active on this trip and doing some hiking, and snorkeling, maybe even trying something new.

We loved Old Lahaina Luau (but I was 6 months post op and ate about 10 bites!)!  The dances and show were fantastic!

Also, loved the Christmas meal we had at Pacific'O.  Right on the beach, superbly prepared fresh fish.

Snorkeled and swam at Kamaole II and III in Kihei which is south of Lahaina (loved those beaches and lots of shops nearby).  Also took long walks at Kaanapali Bea*****aanapali (just north of Lahaina) and watched the paddle boarders do their thing.

Took a whale cruise with Trilogy Excursions. They keep the number of people on their boats to a minimum so everyone gets a good view and you aren't smashed by people.

And Haleakala for hiking/biking (out of this world views) and the Road to Hana (for adventure drivers only but the waterfalls along the way and whirlpools at the end are worth it!) as I already mentioned.

It's been years since I've been to Maui but the bike ride down Haleakala after sun rise was one of my favorites.

Hiking the rain forest was fantatasic too.

Snorkeling and meeting turtles and dolphins on the way was great.

So many fun things to do an no weight to hold you back.  Have a great trip.

It's been thirty years since I've been to Maui! I'm pretty sure it's completely different. LOL

I lived on O'ahu for several years and visisted Maui, but moved back to the mainland in '98. My BIGGEST piece of advice is to get up early (yes, 3am) and take the tour to Haliaulka (spelling? it's the big mountain) and watch the sunrise. DO NOT miss this.

Also the Io park is nice.

Of course, party it up at night down on the strip there We really enjoyed the Hard Rock for a late lunch one day.... quieter, but we make a point to visit a Hard Rock everytime we can just because of the nostalgia we have there.
