Anyone develop a sweet tooth AFTER surgery?
I was a sugar junkie pre op. I really stay away until I was below goal. Now I get crazy cravings but it comes w hormonal stuff. This last month I gave in and know I have to stay away from sweets. I recently got hooked on those caramel sweet and salty Bugles .

Yes! Very much like the OP potatoes (any kind especially chips) and while they still call my name, chocolate is too! I use to have a chocolate bar every couple of months, so no biggie for me, now at least 2-3 times a week I reach for a sf Russell Stouffers chocolate. Luckily one does the trick so I don't deprive myself, but I definitely crave more sweets.
I had a sweet tooth before surgery....after surgery, it was like a miracle, and I didn't have it for a few months, and all I craved was salty foods.......but then it started coming back and now I have a salty & sweet tooth! It is a pain in the butt....because before surgery, I didn't crave or want potato chips, but only sweets, now it is both....double trouble....I have been giving into it, just a little here and there...but I try to stay away from junk foods as much as possible.
I have found the few times I've had sweets since surgery I like them VERY much more than I used to.
Can't say that I crave sweets the way I do protein. I crave steak pretty at least twice a week.
I made the mistake of taking a couple of peanut M&Ms last weekend. OMG, trigger food. Odd because they weren't before. I liked them, but it wasn't like I had to keep eating them. Last weekend it was a violent reaction, like I HAD to have more. So no more of those.
I have had one piece of sugar free chocolate on three separate occasions since April. Really wanted a treat on those days and was out shopping. Each piece was worth the 70 calories it cost. But I can't say I crave them regularly.

I have always had a sugar, carb tooth and the truth is that I still do. I just moderate my intake. I also love cheese. The thing that has changed for me is that I like protein and veggies too, and I never really craved those before. Last night, I ordered a delicious blue cheese encrusted fillet and green beans and I loved the green beans as much as the steak. That would never have happened before the surgery.
About the same for me, I've always leaned more towards savory than sweet.. and dark, dark chocolate over milk.. but when I do get the craving it's for sweet & salty combined. I try to work with it, I have some SF iced coffee I make, or my PB shake I just posted about.. I keep threatening that I will buy one sea salt caramel someday and reli**** I just haven't yet. I have had a bag of dark choc squares in the house since surgery, I've had three! It's not an overwhelming draw, but salt is my downfall.. I have been known to finish a bag of popcorn or cheese curls, so that stuff is relegated to once or twice a year while on vacation.. same as before surgery or else I could live on the stuff I'm afraid.
I've always had a sweet tooth. Chocolate is very much a part of my diet but I don't go for the candy as much any more. I have chocolate in my protein drinks and protein bars and that satisfies me.
What has changed is that I'm more into the salty snacks than I used to be. I'm still not a big chip or cracker fan but I am gaga for nuts and I need to be careful or I eat too many.

I have ALWAYS had a sweet tooth and still do. I cannot have it in my house because I cant limit myself to a bite or two.
My major sweet craving is ice cream, full fat & sugar. I have tried to bring it home and well lets just say the 1/2 gallon was the only thing I ate for 2 days. Lesson learned, right?
I had a major mental discussion with myself last week. Kroger had Blue Bell on sale for $3.99 (1/2 gallon). They have a new flavor, Christmas Cookies in July. OMG!! It sounds absolutely delish!!
I went to Kroger with every intention of coming home with a 1/2 gallon of it. I had the longest mental debate with myself in the ice cream isle that I have ever had. I honestly think I stood there for 5 minutes debating my decision.
I left the store with my SF Popsicles. MAJOR NSV!! I'm still craving the Blue Bell BUT I will not allow myself to give in!!

Oh, ice cream.. that's a big one for me! But, since surgery I can't tolerate but a few bites, or I get icky feeling, heart-racy and tired. So, I figured Haagen Dazs has those mini-cups now.. got one the other day while out shopping with my husband figuring he'd be into helping me with it.. nope. He wasn't in the mood for ice cream (he's a freakish normie with food, lucky &%#) and so, I sat and nibbled.. and even the tiny 3.6oz size was too much for my body to handle.. Pre-op, a pint would be a day or two in the house before it was gone.. now, I can't even get the few oz size without a helper! Lol, better for me anyway.. plus though it was tasty, it just wasn't all that.. I'll save it for when we go to our fav deli that has real gelato and split a small scoop of one of those..
