Anyone develop a sweet tooth AFTER surgery?

I have to ask my dentist if he put a sweet tooth in my bridge work!  Lately I have noticed I am just DYING for Chocolate.  When I am in the grocery store I will stop in the candy Aisle and mentally ravage a bag of Hersheys Sugar Free Chocolate mini bars.  I never buy them, but I read the nutritional info.  I don't do it.  I stay on my plan and remind myself that theres no room for them.  Its weird, I was never a chocoholic before.  I could always give or take it.  Before surgery my go-to candies were either almond joy or Reeses Peanut butter Cups.  I would have those maybe once or twice a month.  Not like my potatoes that would be three or four times a day.

It makes me curious though, How many of you find that as you transition to maintenance that you have different cravings?  Have any of you developed a sweet tooth AFTER weight loss?

I'm doing really good on my transition to maintenance.  I am slowly introducing new foods.  I am staying in my 190 -195 range.  The business trip this week was a bit of a challenge - I didn't always have input into what was being served for catered events so just tried to manage portions.  Where I did have input, I chose sensibly.

Y'all know I posted a few weeks ago about my run in with Darth Spud in my hotel room (subtitled Episode 666 - The Fries Clogged the Commode) .  One night while we were working until 1:30 AM I ordered dinner from the same place that provided the devil fries on my last trip.  No one got the fries - because I told them to bring NONE when I ordered.  My poor coworkers, LOL.

I don't know that my cravings have changed, but I can tell you for sure that my tastes have! You could not have paid me in the past to eat fish and my new favorite thing is salmon on the grill. I litreally used to gag just at the smell, now I eat it twice a week at least.

I was hoping I'd like fish.  That didn't change much - except for shrimp.  But Tilapia, Tuna, Salmon all still kind of gag me.

I didn't - had a pretty good sweet tooth going BEFORE VSG.   But, lucky me, I hate, hate chocolate - always have!
But, I did develop a "cheese tooth" - used to HATE cheese, love it now!   Especially the Dubliner Irish Cheese!
You have done great!

I liked sweets and cheese ok pre-op.... but I LOVE them post-op. It's weird and not a good thing because I can eat my weight in both of them! Gotta keep them in check!

Absolutely. Before surgery my weaknesses were crackers, chips, pasta with cream sauces, butter with a little bread under it...stuff like that. Now my weakness is sweets.

I try to work with it. Breakfast is a smoothie of a cup of milk, a scoop of vanilla protein powder and frozen berries - a milk shake like thing, but it's milk! and protein powder! and fruit! I keep dark chocolate cocoa powder around and throw it in all kinds of things - plain yogurt (with a pack of sweetner is a good example). I make chocolate protein balls.

Whatever I can do to treat myself while not giving in to bad habits I know will get out of hand (there's no such thing as one piece of chocolate to me), I do. I can't eat one piece of cake or candy, but I can eat one Quest bar a day.

And thus I cope.

Prior to surgery, I did have a sweet tooth, but now, it doesn't taste as good as it used to, so I can leave it alone. Now, I crave protein, especially salmon. I also love asparagus and some other veggies, but I can't eat very much of them. :(  I love my morning NF Greek yogurt with some cinnamon, 1/8cup of Bob's Red Mill Museli, and 1/3 cup of some type of berries. I also like my protein shake after working out.

If I had sweets around, I would graze on them, so I don't buy them. Luckily, I don't get a craving for them.

I noticed a sweet tooth creeping up about a month to goal. I quenched it with coffee and splenda. I will also occasionally get a bag of SF licorice and allow myself 3 or so pieces every few days till it is gone then I do not get another for a month. Gotta treat yourself sometimes I guess as a normal person would. Its finding the balance of what a regular sized guy would do. That is the hard part for me. Getting better though. Haven't fluctuated more then 3 lbs and that was on vacation.
