PPI's
I swear, sometimes, if I would only follow my own advice...
I was on a PPI for 2 months post-op, per my program. GERD has never been a big issue for me, although I have had h. Pylori. I was treated for it a decade ago and then pre-op. At the same time, I have given the, "Are you on a PPI? GERD can make you 'feel' hungry when you're body is really trying to get food to neutralize acid" advice any number of times post-op.
While I tried to back my calories down to take off some more of my 'saddlebags' and to push my body fat below 20%, I found I couldn't cut back to where I wanted to be. I was struggling a little, fluids weren't helping, etc. I journal everything. I went back through my logs and realized I was 'feeling' like I needed to eat as soon as my sleeve was completely empty which is a classic ulcer symptom I was told to watch out for when I was first diagnosed with h. Pylori a decade ago.
I called my surgeons office yesterday, and I started on a PPI today (Prilosec). I'm also to do the 'standard' anti-GERD measures like cutting back on acidic and spicy foods, not eating for 2 hours before bed-time, etc. I know it takes several days for PPI's to take effect, but I feel less of that 'put food in me' sensation today. If it's not completely resolved in 2 weeks, I am to go in to the office. I have to say, Dr. Kim's office was very responsive and helpful over the phone.

Hopefully, the PPI will help.
I remember at about 3 1/2 months post op I started having rumbling and felt the need to eat after about 2 hours with no food. I took your advice (and that of others) and got my suregeon's MD to prescribe a PPI (Prilosec). Worked super fast for me. Within a day or two the symptoms went away. Now when I feel hunger, at least I know it's hunger!
Keeping my fingers crossed that it works as well for you as it does for me.

Thanks! I feel like an idiot sometimes for dishing out advice I don't always follow.
I feel SOOO much better, already. It's amazing, and I ate about 400 fewer calories yesterday even after working out with my trainer. I'm now looking up and noticing it's 3-4 hours since I ate last instead of having to 'pace' myself to eat no sooner than every 2-2 1/2.

Thirded! I never had acid issues before surgery, but noticed a few months back that I was feeling hungry when it was impossible for my stomach to be empty. I started on OTC prilosec and it has helped me a ton. Like Kairk said, at least now when I feel hungry I know its really hunger.
