They advertise it as a meal replacment....and ussually I don't eat after drinking one. My favorite time for this is when I have to do a NY to LA trip as there is a SK in JFK airport.

I think throwing half a banana or a handful of berries into your protein shake is fine.

I'd be careful about assuming that your typical smoothie is a healthy choice though, even if it has protein in it. I sometimes get the protein berry smoothie at Jamba Juice. It has a measly 17g of protein but a whopping 54 g of carb -- of which 45 g are sugar!

I consider it a healthier alternative to ice cream but I don't consider it a protein shake or even remotely healthy. It's a treat I have once in a while.

I agree...That's why i'll only do it on a weekend as a treat.

BTW...funny you mention Protein Berry Workout from Jamba Juice. It's my goto drink when I have a really tough day at the office and I feel I need something on the train ride home. It's about the healthiest junk food I found in Penn Station.

It's what I get when Mini-Mac drags me to Jamba Juice. I only get the 16 but she gets an original Razzmatazz.

What I think people don't realize about smoothies you buy from a stand is that most of them have some sort of ice cream in them. It might be "frozen yogurt" or "frozen dairy base" (as they call it at Jamba Juice) but it's basically ice cream -- milk and sugar.

Post workout, I will have a protein shake, with some spinach, some berries, and either NF skim milk or almond milk, depending upon the type of workout that I just finished. The protein level is about 20 grams for me, or more if I use NF skim milk. I use mostly berries, about 1/3 cup. I have been in maintenance for over a year, and this seems to be working for me. I also, have some berries in my AM NF Greek Yogurt. I prefer to use berries, rather than the sugared yogurts. I average about two portions/day of 1/3 cup each of berries. Occasionally, I'll throw in a little banana, but not often. Sometimes, I will also throw in about 1/4 cup of NF Plain Greek yogurt, whi*****reases the protein content and flavor of the shake. I like to freeze the berries, so that it cuts down on the amount of ice that I need to use.

Thank you all again for the replies. It sounds like the gist of it is like everything there are healthy and not so healthy ways to go about this. I think I will stick to measuring my own so I know exactly what is in it. Only way I can see this being doable regularly.
