I'm back - Best NSV Ever! (xpost)
What a wonderful weekend! My latest NSV is to be “the ***** on the back" of our Harley. This has been a goal of mine since prior to surgery and I was finally invited to ride again by DH (I’ve been waiting patiently for him to ask – it’s been years since I’ve been on it). So, here’s a rundown on the awesome trip. Got up Saturday morning and donned my riding togs and we were out the door and on the open road at 7:30am. I had forgotten what it was like to have the wind on my face while hugging my sweetie. Goodness, it was great to be back on the bike. I had also forgotten about the pockets of cool air that you sail through. That was always surprising and lovely. We saw all kinds of critters on our way from DFW to the hill country. We saw cows, horses, asses (the donkey kind), hawks, wild turkeys, goats, sheep, deer and even down by Enchanted Rock, we saw a baby raccoon. There is a photo of me with him below. He was giving me a kiss. We cruised past Enchanted Rock on Saturday and strolled around Fredricksburg for a while and then ended up at our destination in Kerrville. After washing the sweat & grit off our faces we rested a bit and then putt putt putted over to the General Store in Hunt for a brew (well, DH had a brew) and discovered they were in the final throes of a washer pitching tournament. Everyone was very animated and we had a great time watching them talk trash to each other.
Sunday morning we rose early again and were back on the road at 7:30am. We took a super twisty curvy road (Hwy 16) over to Medina and the vista was beautiful from up in the hill we were riding over. We stopped in Medina for breakfast at a small town café and then moved on to wave at Enchanted Rock on our way out of town. Two photos were taken there below. We couldn’t quite bring ourselves to leave the area yet so we turned around and took a country road over to the Willow City Loop. This is a one lane road that winds in and out for about 12 miles up high with beautiful vistas and down low into a valley. Maximum speed is about 20 mph so it’s slow and scenic. There are cattle guards between each owners private property and you travel with loose livestock. We tried to cruise as quietly as possible on the Harley (yeah, we didn't talk - but that was all we could do with those Screaming Eagle pipes blasting out) right past a huge black cow…I don't think she even noticed us (10 feet away)...Once we had completed the Loop, we had to head back home. Sadness!!! We got back on the road heading North and stayed on back roads all the way back to DFW stopping in small towns for gas and food. We got home about 4:00pm and arrived home to a temperature of 101 degrees (no wonder I was FRYING on the back of that bike).
I wouldn’t trade this NSV for anything. It felt indescribably good to be a participant in life again. Good luck to you all and keep those goals alive until you reach them!
