Daily Maintenance Weigh In - Monday, 6/26

Good morning. Had another long hike yesterday; hiked a total of just over 38 miles between the two days this weekend.

Has anyone here had any experience with exercise induced asthma? My sister the nurse thinks I may have it - I have plenty of stamina, but when I'm hiking up mountains and get even a little short of breath I begin to wheeze, then cough. Kind of scary. It only started in the last few weeks since the weather has gotten pretty hot.

Today is day 5 of my 30-Day No-Weigh.

How goes with you guys?

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22

175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012

Good morning Mom,

I am sorry but I do not have any experience with what you are describing. Even when I was very fit and active when I was younger I never ran across that. Of course never in my life have I been as active as you are even when I was working out 6 days a week I did not match your distance.

182.3
80.9% lean
19.1% fat

Ran in the morning then worked on the lawn for a few hours and it was very hot. I though the 100+ ounces I drank was enough but it appears I was wrong. It will come up during the week I am sure.

Google exercise induced asthma. I bet you can find info on it that way. You can still walk really far so it must be mild, if at all.
Down 1.6 pounds today after I had a long talk with myself yesterday and kept it clean and lean. Weigh 124.2 today. Big 18 month visit this Wed at bariatric surgeon's office. Have a great week everyone.

According to Dr. Google, exercise induced asthma is usually triggered by "prolonged, intense exertion". So apparently when I walk or take normal hikes I must not exert myself enough. Each time it has occured I've been going up a pretty sustained steep area up a mountain.

133 today, better than yesterday... I was down to 132 yesterday morning!

Mom, I had/have asthma. I've learned over the years that my attacks have triggers. Some of mine are extreme heat, humidity, being overly exhausted and stress. Exercise induced asthma is probably what your experiencing. Talk to your doctor about it, they may give you an inhaler for when you have symptoms while hiking. And while inhalers are no fun, neither is not being able to breathe!

Hope all is well with everyone else!

I spent 3 long days on my feet at the dog show in Orlando. I swear I should wear a pedometer.  I walk, and walk, and walk.  I showed 5 Toy Manchesters back-to-back on Saturday because  a handler couldn't make the ring and we needed the dogs in to hold the points. That was pretty intense, lol, but it was almost no physical effort for me given my size, now. The same day put together and hosted a surpise wine & cheese 'toast' to honor a friend who lost a very special 16 year old dog last week.

I'm back on a normal schedule. There's no hope of outdoor activity here as we're basically being flooded out; however, I will go to the gym tonight.
