Does your body just settle at one weight

I am almost 2 years out. I have been at 165 to 170 increased every thing. Water protein cut back on carbs my body just will not go to 150 which I would love to be. I exercise and now I exercise more. Just wondering if the body just is happy where I am at and that is it. Thanks Val.
My surgeon gave me the tool. Now it is up to me to use it right.

I am the same way Val.  I've been maintaining the same weight for a year now.  I'm never giving up though.

I will just keep on plugging away and exercising.....but for some reason my body likes this weight...

Losing the last bit of pounds is REALLY HARD...especially when we are older...it requires REALLY clean food and excercise...it's worth it and it IS POSSIBLE...it's just hard when we have already done so much work and it's another REAL EFFORT....if you want it you can have it....but we can only do what we can do...it comes off much slower....like a pound a week or so...so you have to be patient...

You look naturally muscular, are you?

what does your doctor say? what do your clothes tell you?  If you really want that additional loss then keep at it. being focused and determined is a good habit to have for maintenance even if you don't get the extra weight off. i bet you have gained muscle mass. why not get a body fat test and see where you are?

But yes, i think our bodies do kind of find a point they like and try to stay there and it may or may not be what the surgeon says. so often surgeons revise goals as the patient gets a lot of weight off and more things are apparant about the individual. my brother's surgeon upped his goal weight recently which i think is a good thing.  diane

I have not asked my surgeon. He did say once 145 but there is no way. I think my body likes this weight and I should just make sure to not gain any more. I never want to see 300 lbs so I watch and exercise so that does not happen. I will ask my surgeon when I see him in July for my 2 year evaluation.
My surgeon gave me the tool. Now it is up to me to use it right.

I definitely think our bodies get used to a certain weight and it's hard to get beyond that. I think they call it the set point?

I know my trainer tells me all the time that I need to mix up my exercise more. It's hard for me to force myself to do different things other than the elliptical and the treadmill.

The older we get, the harder it gets.

You don't have to change what you do if you don't want to. Instead, you can change your intensity. Put the machine on a higher resistance, or set the incline higher, or set the speed higher. It does the same thing as changing your exercise. Another thing you can do is intervals. Go as fast as you possibly can for a few minutes, then back off. Lather, rinse & repeat.

Also, it depends on what your goal is. If your goal is to burn as many calories as possible, then workout as hard as you can for as long as you can doing a variety of exercises. If your goal is to move your body so you burn some extra calories and enjoy good health, then you can do whatever makes you happy at an intensity that makes you happy for as long as makes you happy.

Think of these two things as the difference between being in losing mode vs. maintenance mode. When in maintenance, it's all about finding a balance you can live with. If you are in "improve my fitness mode", then you are working harder than if you are in "maintain my fitness mode".
