How Much Protein, How Many Carbs?
I like having a plan. My plan is usually to eat about 1000 calories or under when I want to lose. I focus on removing all unnecessary calories, like sugars, alcohol and fat's from full fat dairy. I mostly eat lean protein and veggies. In truth, I usually just go back to my soup recipes for a week or so and I am back at goal or below. I lose very fast with those. I do not allow myself to get hungry or shaky, if I am really hungry, I always eat, I just eat very healthy food and only until I am satisfied. Doing this, journaling and increasing water intake has always worked (so far). Good luck to you.
I don't count calories at all. When I see the scale start to creep up, I get srtict about only eating meat, fruit, veggies, nuts, and low carb protein drinks. No dairy, grains or processed foods (basically the Paleo diet). This seems to work for me. As long as I'm feeding my body the right foods and working out, the weight comes off.
I could never go as low as 600 calories! Sometimes I've eaten that much by lunch time!
I think we all have to figure out what works best for our own bodies! Good luck!

Jen,
I am wondering why you avoid dairy. Is it because of the sugar in dairy?
Non fat cottage cheese is a favorite of mine. I don't eat it daily but a couple of times a week it's a quick and easy snack. I am wondering if this is a problem for weight loss.
Please give me your thoughts on dairy and weight loss.
Thanks!
K

In February I did a Paleo challenge at the Crossfit gym I go to. At the time I was happy with my weight loss, so not looking to lose more weight, just change my body composition to have less fat and more muscle.
I read most of the Paleo Solution by Robb Wolf and tried my best to follow the diet to see if it would help with my goal. I already ate pretty low carb, so the major changes for me were:
1. No Dairy - this is hard for me. I LOVE cheese!
2. No Peanuts - again hard for me because I love peanut butter. I tried sunflower butter and it's pretty good, but not the same.
3. No processed food / artificial sweeetners. I also love Powerade so this was another hard one for me.
When I made these changes I immediately lost a few pounds, so I started looking to add healthy fats.
Another benefit I found was I no longer needed my PPI.
The Paleo solution is totally against grains. So no meat and dairy that comes from grain fed animals. Some people do allow raw dairy from grass fed animals.
I tried doing some unofficial research to see why I didn't need the PPI anymore and my conclusion was it has to do with the acidity level in your body (not just your stomach) There are a lot of foods that either decrease or increase the PH level in your body and one of these is dairy.
I'm not always so good at following the Paleo diet and when I get too far off track, my stomach acid comes back.
If you have a chance, do some online research on the Paleo diet. It's all about getting your body to work optimally. If you eat right and get the nutrients you need and avoid foods that keep you from absorbing those nutrients you shouldn't need to count calories. I actually eat less calories when I follow the program and have to add things like avocado and coconut oil to keep my calories up.
Sorry the answer was so long!
