Setting goals in maintenance

Today I realized I had achieved one of the goals I have set in the OH goals section which was to be at or under 125 lbs on June 12,2012. I think i was 121 that day.

Since I got to my desired weight I have set a goal in this section every six months to be at or under 125. So far I have done this three times. Like during weight loss phase, its good to have maintenance goals to avoid the tendancy to drift off plan or loose vigilence. Keeping my weight in the desired range for 6 month increments helps me. I might switch to shorter intervals since I like the feeling of having succeeded.

So if you are a maintainer and don't use the goal section of OH, you might try it.  Next I need to set some exercise goals (inspired by Elina) and get my skinny rear moving.

I love goals.  My main weight maintenance goal is to be at or under 105 lbs. by each third Wednesday, support group day, of the month.  I love reaching this goal and feeling terrific when I go to see the general.

I love the idea of setting work out goals.  By the way, I can already see a difference in my biceps.  :)

So glad to hear its working for you. I hope you will post more about your workouts! So fun to think of you getting fit in a dumpy garage with policement!    Diane

Policeman and firefighters Diane, can you believe it?  One of them asked me if I was training for something specific, I told him, "Life".   :)

I would absolutely love to start lifting weights again. I have this mental block telling me that it is a waste of time with all this skin and to wait till after PS. I have started running a few times a week and can see the difference in my thighs. I wonder if it would do the same for my arms and chest flaps. I used to love to lift weights but feel so self concious in a gym. Was thinking of finding a cheap home gym on Craigs. Anyone else feel this way? Good for you guys by the way, i can think of few things more important then goals. It has driven me to lose my weight, get my undergrad, and am currently working on my masters. I think if you are not pushing to better yourself in some way you start to become stagnant. Anyway, rambling now...the end.

I started lifting weights, when I was starting the 4th post-op month. I was feeling weak and tired and thought about how good I felt about 18 years previously, when I had lost a lot of weight and had started lifting weights. I have to tell you, for the past 1.5 years that I have been doing this, it was one of the best decisions that I made. I am strong, fit, have some muscle tone, and my body fat is lean. I have loose skin and nothing but plastic surgery is going to take care of it, but it would be so much worse without the exercise and weight training. It changes your body.

I don't think that it would be a waste of time for you to weight train, even with your loose skin. It can be frustrating to know that there is muscle under the skin, but it is hard to see it, due to the loose skin. Any plastic surgeon will tell you, that having muscle tone, really improves the final results of plastic surgery. I had two consultations and both surgeons said that the muscle that I have developed, will definitely have a positive effect on the outcome.

The best thing, is that I don't have flat butt syndrome any longer. Yes, I do have some droopiness on the lower buttocks, but the upper part has definitely developed some muscle tone from all the squats, lunges, TRX, leg presses, and everything else that my trainer has me doing.

It is NEVER a waste of time to weight train. It increases your metabolism and burns more calories at rest, than fat tissue. Plus, it is great for your bones. I can't think of one negative thing about it.

I think I was self conscious in the beginning, but everyone at the gym is trying to improve their physical health and well-being. The people are all shapes and sizes, including MO.

You also get a better result with plastics if you're toned up before the procedure.

Thank you Gail!

After I posted this I had a talk with the wifey. She is going to let me put a home gym in the guest room as lon it is the fold up type. I found what looks to be a nice one for 200 on Craigs. I think I am going to do it. You are right, back when I used to weight lift I did feel so much better about myself.

I am doing mostly Zumba and Latin Dancing, but hubbie bought me these 2 little stiff foam footballs. I squeeze the heck out of them while I am in the chair watching TV. They have tightened up my upper arms and my lower arms and my chest muscles. Simple, almost stupid little thing, when you guys are doing whole gyms, but heck, every little bit helps. I grew alarmed when I also saw my LOWER arms looking melted and wrinkly. They still do and I hope the fat re-distributes and I lose that look. I can accept it on my buttocks or even my upper arms, but my lower arms? The footballs are helping though--I can see and feel the difference in my biceps/triceps/pectorals. So, the struggle continues......
