VSG Maintenance Group
VSG almost 3 years later
This July will be my 3 year mark after having VSG. Original weight 430 pounds. Surgery weight was 387 pounds. Lowest weight attained was 232 pounds. My current weight is 280 pounds. Yes over the past year I have gained about 40 pounds after I was doing really good maintaining in the 240's.
I think the reason for the weight gain are the following:
1. Not enough exercise
2. Going from single to getting married with a family - learning how to eat with other people that never had the weight problem I did.
3. Eating out too much with family
4. Snacking while working midnight shift
I have only gained back 40 pounds but my waist size bumped up a few inches. I am taking steps now by starting a gym membership. I need to work on my eating habits and learning how to cook healthy foods for myself. With my job as a 911 dispatcher and as a parent with young children my life can be very hectic. I need to nip this in the but before it gets worse...
I did go have a resting metabolic rate test done and my dietition has me at a 1900 calorie limit for weight loss. I can get more specific on that if needed. I dont have everything in front of me right now.
Please tell me how you are doing at 3 years out and what you are eating that is good for you.
Thanks,
Steve

I'm not three years out. But I wanted to congratulate you on taking the first steps of recognizing the issue and starting a plan to deal with it.
You can do it!!!
There's plenty of posts of plans to get you back on track. Heather (Pura Vida) just recently accomplished this. Her story and plan is a few posts below.
Basically you will need to go back to basics and follow some simple rules.
1) Protein First
2) Plenty of Water
3) Exercise
4) Planning your meals (no grazing)
The recent thread on Munchies & Crunches shows what some are eating.
Good Luck!!!

It's good to have you here. I'm not 3 years out either, but wanted to say that there are plenty on here that have had regain and are trying to get the weight off. Like Mike said, Pura Vida just got done kicking 29 pounds back to the curb. She is proof that our sleeves still work.
I'm still trying to kick those last few pounds to the curb, so my postings on the munches and crunches posts reflect my ongoing attempt at further weight loss.
One thing that is helping me stay on track is staying on this board. It helps keep my head in the game. It's hard to stray while reading all the positive stuff on this board, so stick around, read the board and post. It has really been invaluable. There are so many great, and helpful people here.

I will be 3 1/2 years out next month and have had no regain at all. Basically I still eat as I did in the losing phase with a few more occasional treats. I always start my day with a protein shake and eat small protein forward meals every 3 hours after that. I still have a lot of restriction and can only manage about 2 1/2 ounces of protein at 1 sitting. I go to the gym and do a mix of cardio and heavy weights at least 3 times a week for about 2 hours.
The mainstays of my diet are lean meats, dairy (lots of greek yogurt and skim milk), eggs, veggies and fruit, nuts and nut butters and of course whey protein daily. I do eat carbs like beans, oats, potatoes and corn but honestly I'm so full after the meat and veggies that I can only eat a couple small bites. But that's enough so that I don't feel deprived. it's been very easy for me to stick to this regiment. I guess I finally got my emotional issues with food under control. Also, I never eat fast food.
I was always an exerciser and have been involved in bodybuilding since 1989. So that part was easy for me.
Hope this helps.

Steve,
I am 3.5 years out and just recently started to vigilantly access the boards again as I notIced my weight as creeping up. I was up 13 pounds from goal which meant my clothes were getting very uncomfortable. I am down 4 pounds so far but this is after cutting out carbs (or most that is) because I swore I would not go out and buy a bigger size. Exercise hasn't been my problem as I have been a gym rat for years. My problem is sweets, diet soda, and carbs plain and simple. I know what to do to get it off but I find myself saying the same things I said to myself pre surgery.....just this one (insert the bad food) and I will start fresh tomorrow...or start fresh Monday....head games is all. I opened an account with myfitnesspal and have been logging consistantly the last week. Anyway, I am on the right track and you can too!
