Has anyone started drinking diet pop again?

I stopped drinking diet soda several years ago when I realized that they stimulated my appetite.  I would not even be hungry, then i would drink a diet soda and be starving.  Diet soda caused me to eat a lot of extra calories.  Later, they came out with a news report that said what i had noticed.  Diet soda stimulated the appetite, and caused people to eat more calories because it messes with your blood sugar.

However;  it's controversial and I intake a lot of splenda with no appetite stimulation.  I have no idea why it stimulates "my" appetite.  All I know is that after drinking a diet soda, I could eat a horse, on the hoof.

I don't know why we shouldn't drink it post surgery by sleeve standards, because I didn't bother hearing the reason.  My surgeon asked me I I drink it, and I said No, that I had quit a long time ago because it stimulates my appetite.  He was satisfied with my reply and moved on.

I drink diet soda with my Doctors permission but only occasionally.  I really don't crave it much but do enjoy one 2 or 3 times a month.  And that's about all I drank it pre-op as well.  I'm more of a coffee girl.

I agree that it is a slippery slope that I don't want to even tempt!  I used to be a big time soda drinker and I don't even want to start.  I agree with the poster above that it does stimulate your appetitie.  So, if I were you, I would go off them cold turkey and stay off them!

I have to admit it....I am soo addicted to it again (mostly coke zero). I swore off it after surgery and was so good for at least a year! My slippery slope started in Mx when I had my plastics. They had free coke with real sugar at the hotel and it was a snow ball effect after that. I have tried to quit many a times since but oyevey this is sooo hard.......

I haven't really started drinking it but I do occasionally get into sitautoins where my choices are beer, diet soda, regular soda or nothing. Depending on how thirsty I am, I may drink diet soda over nothing. So I've had maybe 5 diet sodas in the past 3.5 years.

I have the odd diet pepsi but its never been a problem.  Maybe 2-3 a month.

I was a major diet coke girl before my sleeve.  Gave it up one month pre-op and have never had a sip since then.  Just isn't worth it to me.  I don't want to hurt my sleeve at all.
the cost is too high....don't do it!

I mostly avoid diet coke, although I love it, because the phosphoric acid causes calcium loss from your bones. I also do associate diet coke consumption with fast food and snack food consumption, so I fear that having it too often might lead to eating things I do not want to be eating. If I am out and about though, I'll have a small one if there are no better options available and I don't feel like plain water. Also, I rarely drink alcohol, but I'll sometimes order a diet coke and rum at a bar, especially if the wine selection is dicey. I haven't ever been one to drink regular/ non-diet coke or other soft drinks, so they aren't even tempting.

I do, often, mix my Crystal Light packets with carbonated water. Still have great restriction and it doesn't cause me any discomfort, so I've made my peace with this decision. Despite various warnings here and elsewhere on the web, I haven't actually been able to find any evidence that carbonation will stretch the sleeve. I do suspect that artifiical sweeteners are something I should be limiting more, but at this point I'm not going there.

good luck!!  I don't have this particular vice but I have others

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.
