a bad habit I never gave up
wearing less than flattering clothes.
I have always divided up my clothing into "nice" clothes and "play" clothes - the latter being things I don't mind dribbling spaghetti sauce on. or letting a pet bird poop on my shoulder. or getting dog hair all over me. being comfortable in, in other words.
but here I have ended up with a bunch of things I "don't mind" staining or whatever, because they don't look good. too big, stained, ugly color, whatever.
and I have WAY too many of these things - how many things do you want that you don't mind wearing (for example) to paint walls because then they can be thrown away.
I find when I wear these things I don't feel as good and then I don't take care of myself by, for example, eating healthy foods. and then back again, you know? in a vicious circle.
anyone else?

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.
PM me if you are interested in either of these.

I had a hard time getting rid of my too-big clothes. Of course I just couldn't wear a lot of the pants, but I would still wear tops that were too big. I'm a size 4-6, but I'm still trying to wear XL shirts. I've had to start telling myself that I look ridiculous wearing these things. That's the only way I can get myself to get rid of them.
yeah I do this too and have a lot of stuff still that is too big and i know i will never wear it to do cleaning or gardening (because i hardly ever clean anyway).
and i have good clothes (though few in my new size) that i always associate with being uncomfortable. so i hate to dress up and never buy dressy stuff as i have no use for it. and i still have some very nice too big things that i should give away because they are really good - i think i offended a friend by offering them to her bacause it was like saying "hey do you want my fat clothes" but really I just wanted her to have the nicer expensive stuff.

it isn't just that I have things that are too big - I order a lot online and when stuff comes that doesn't flatter me, it doesn't seem worth it to return if it was really cheap: so I keep it and wear it. even though it's wrong in color or whatever.
I need to give it away and ONLY wear things that work for me.

It feels really good to take a few bags of clothes to the Goodwill. I finally sent my nicer fat clothes to a lady on the Verticalsleevetalk clothing exchange board. It felt good to ge rid of them,.
I sitll have some T shirts that are huge that I will wear around the house.
I don't like to wear any of my nicer work clothes anywhere other than to work. They look nice, and they aren't super dressy or anything. I've been trying lately to look better and wore one of my nicer tops. By the end of the day, I was sorry I did that because I spilled bleach on it.

That's precisely the reason I decided to get some nice clothes to wear.
I can get by with wearing slacks a dress shirt and a tie to work. I purchased cheap versions as I was still loosing. I noticed about a month ago that I was still wearing pants and shirts two sizes to big. They didn't look bad but they didn't look good either.
Last month, I purchased several nice dress suits. I've started to wear them to work. The first thing people think is that I'm interviewing for a new job. Then they started to complement me on the way that I look. It was like experiencing the NSV's again during the losing phase. Have to say that it made me feel good.
I really enjoy wearing the suits to work. Even though it's not "required". It helps boost my self esteem...because I know I look good in them...which in turns makes me feel good about myself.
It also has a positive side effect. It's that old saying don't dress for the job that you have...dress for the job that you want. I'm seen in a new light by my management and that also makes me feel good.

I say GET RID OF THEM...
Baggy & unflattering clothes do something to us psychologically....and it is already hard to adjust to the new reflection in the mirror...and realize that we are thin and not obese anymore....but wearing clothes that are baggy make us still see ourselves fatter, and it can lead to depressing thoughts...and I think that can lead to eating bad and self sabotage.
Plus it does project to other people we don't care about ourselves...
I hate fussy clothing also, and I love to be comfortable....but I have been very selective in buying things...they must fit properly, look good, be cheap, and be comfy....not always an easy thing, but if you keep looking, it can be done....my best stores for this have been Old Navy & Target.
If they are cheap, then you don't have to worry if they don't last long or if you stain them...then you don't need two wardrobes....one for play and one for nice....once they are stained, you just use those for working out or whatever or just throw them away...like disposable clothing...I typically buy shirts that are $5.00 or less so it works for me. If it is really dressy, I may spend more, but then those are clothes that are only worn occasionally and tend to last long anyway.
You deserve the self esteem boost, go get rid of the crappy clothes and buy some nice ones that fit and look good! :)
