Bragging on Shrinking Nerd

So my DH Shrinking Nerd has now lost a total of 150 lbs including pre op weight. And its about 110 since surgery which was November 15 2011. So he is really burning it up. 11 pounds in the last month.  And boy does it show. He is wearing xl clothes instead of 5x.  He is 6 feet tall and a big guy anyway. I think goal weight is 190 or so.  Anyway I am so proud of him.

One issue is he has been having queasiness and sometimes spits up for no known reason a couple of hours after eating. Dr. ordered a barium swallow and lab tests. The barium showed a hiatal hernia that he didn't have before surgery. Dr. hasn't seent the films yet but it might need a repair.

Has anyone else developed a hiatal hernia after surgery?   Dr. says sometimes the weakness is there but all the fat in your gut sort of holds everything in place and when the fat goes away the hernia can occur.  And i suspect having a smaller stomach makes it easier to it to slide up.

But anyway the Nerd is skinnier and getting skinnier all the time!!!

As you know, mine developed post surgery. That's an interesting explanation of WHY it occurs though, that I've never heard. Another surgery is not great, but it may just get worse if it's not repaired. Mine certainly did! And the difference now, with no PPIs in my life, is priceless!!

hey, the shrinking nerd just went shopping to get soba water and household stuff and he came home with a bunch of NEW CLOTHES!!!!  this guy never shops for clothes and I have to drag him or just go buy stuff for him!  I think he just liked not shopping at the big and tall place.  diane

What an interesting hernia explanation!

I love how he went out and bought clothes!!!!

I would love to have your double sleever grocery bill.  My family is an eating machine army.

I hope, if he has to have a hernia repair, it goes smoothly.

Good luck with the hernia! Minor problem in the overall scope of things and considering all the weight he has lost. I had to have a hysterectomy a few months after VSG and felt like a million bucks when that was over and done. Also went on to lose 20 pounds right after the surgery, after I let go of all the stress. Let us know what they decide.

I don't have any input to offer on the hiatal hernia, but I just wanted to chime in and say big congrats to Shrinking Nerd! I'm so glad to hear he is rocking the weight loss!!

congratulations to him & so glad he got new clothes. (I know it's shallow but that is my FAVORITE thing!!)

hope he can get it fixed & get on with enjoying his new body.

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.
