Yesterday I had kidney stones removed..an in/out surgery.  Lots of cramps...but I can totally deal with that.  The part that I am pissed about is....I have gained 5 lbs overnight..literally overnight!  I hardly ate yesterday. I know that I shouldn't have stepped on the scale but I did anyway.  I also know that they put alot of IV fluids into you during surgery...but WTF!!  I am pissed!  Kind of feel like in a panic about it....

any words of wisdom??

Any words of wisdom?

Don't be pissed that you're puffed up from IV fluids after having surgery??

Seriously, I don't get the problem here. You'll flush the fluid out over the next few days and that will be that.

Patty, you're a RN. IV fluids are responsible for such a large overnight weight gain. After VSG, I had a 7-8 weight gain related to IV fluids. It will come off in the next few days.

Hugs,

Gail

((((((HUGS))))))  deep breath Patty.  You didn't eat 17,500 calories which is what you would need to gain 5 pounds.  Your body has been through a surgery and is swelled up trying to protect itself from the trauma.  Your body obtained those fluids from your I.V.  As you heal, the fluid will come off.

Relax, don't stress.

I'm so glad your surgery went well.  I'll be praying for a speedy recovery and no more stones.

It is totally the IV fluids and it will be off soon! I came home from my hernia repair 10 lbs heavier but it was gone within 3 days or so. Not to worry, Patty. Glad the surgery went well!!

Thanks everyone....I do totally get it.  I am a RN and know what happend.  But when you see that scale..wow...it just really upset me.  I knew better than to step on that scale.
LIzanne...your story made me feel better..thanks for sharing!

I get it..I really do...but I am still pissed! ugh!!!  But I feel better now hearing from your girls...  I can feel the support!

Yeah, I would be pissed too, even though I would know the reason for the increase. Wishing you many frequent trips to the restroom over the next few days. Any increase in the scale makes me feel panicky, too. I do understand that.

I don't blame you a bit for wigging out. But you KNOW its fluid and be glad for it to help those kidneys. From right before vsg until the day after I gained 7 pounds at the hospital - and this with stomach removed. Of course it was fluid. Yours is too.

I am glad you are through this safely. Don't weigh for a couple of days and I bet you find it drops off.  Diane

Kidney stones are supposed to be very very painful . You should pat yourself on the back for having to go throught that.

I am sure if you drink a lot of water today, it will push the extra fluids out. I wish that were only my problem and that drinking a lot would  work for me and I would drop 5 lbs.

I bet we're going to see a thread saying your 5 lbs is gone soon!

Yep, that scale is our Achilles tendon isn't it?  I would have been upset and would have needed to vent too, regardless of your R.N. status, your still human, and we all get upset and need to vent.   As Gail said, I wish you many trips to the bathroom as well......
