Hi Y'all, my trip went pretty good I guess......

I got back last week from my trip to my Mom's nursing home.  Food wise, It went well, and I stayed on plan, but the nursing home was a very wheaty environment, and after 2 days, I went into anaphylactic shock from all the wheat in the air, after the initial emergency treatment, I was put on 50 mg of prednisone for 5 days, then lower doses after that to taper off.  This was to keep me from swelling up again, especially to keep my throat from swelling shut.  I'm finally off of the stuff, and thankfully did not gain any weight from it, which was a concern, and thankfully, it kept my body from doing anymore swelling, just like it's suppose to do.

I've never seen a nursing home quite like this.  It was a constant food fest.  Every patient there should weigh 500 pounds!!!  They cook and bake everything from scratch and food is available 24/7.  Every little sitting area has a layout of coffee, donuts, juice, fruit, cake, cookies, pastries...ETC....food everywhere, combined with poor air circulation.  This place is HUGE, it's like a  little indoor city with condo's, assisted living, nursing home type wings, it's meant for all levels of senior living.  No one there has to cook either, because Food is KING there!

Now I know why my mom and Dad have gained around 50 pounds each in a year!

None the less, I went from my wheat free home and stepped into a very hellish wheaty environment.  After 2 days, my body could not take it anymore, and I went down..  Zantac (histamine 2 blocker) usually saves me from airborne reactions, but the exposure was to big and I had a big reaction.  I'm well now,  and happy to be home in my wheat free house!!!!

The trip really kicked my butt, It's been a rough week but I am feeling 100 percent now.  I even walked 4 miles this morning.

Good job!    4 miles this AM!   We only did our 2, but then I worked in the yard for a few hours, LOL.

YEA!!!  I took my GPS with me and discovered I actually walk 4 miles, when I thought I was only walking 2!!!

You must have been sweating in the heat doing yard work!!!

Yeah, but a good sweat!  Now I am watering the areas I weeded.   I guess, so the weeds can grow back, lol!

I have never thought about taking my GPS to track the distance.   Drove it, and it is actually about 1.9+ miles, so I call it 2, LOL.   Close enough to call for me, lol!

Did you give that area some fertilizer so those weeds can grow back stronger and bigger???  LOL

But, I would rather be working in the yard that doing what Larry is doing - cutting up trees he cut down.   Some are 3' in diameter, so a big job to cut up and stack.   Plus, some of them had fire ants and yellow jackets in them.
Oh, the drought - go away!!!

You should try your GPS, it was awesome.  Itracked my speed and time too.  I averaged 3.5 MPH and walked for 50 min. for a total of 4 miles.

No, I do not envy Larry, I hope he doesn't get stung!

Oh my Lord, you poor thing!  My parents are considering one of those homes.  It's like an endless buffet.

Glad you are OK.

I like your kitty avatar, but I also miss the chicken with the bandana!

OMGosh!!!  I can't believe you remember the chicken avatar I use to have!!

"Endless buffet"  that is the PERFECT word to describe this place.  It was crazy!  Your parents will never have to cook, or have a lack of food for the rest of their lives!

However, I pray I never need to live in a place like that....and I doubt there is any such thing as a gluten free nursing home.
