Question for the experts

I read the other day that Emelar had her Resting Metabolic Rate tested to determine her minimum caloric needs.  That got me thinking.  I've been jacking around with my calories trying to find the right balance for maintenance and I keep losing weight anyway.  Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy about where I am but I think it may be time to really maintain...That being said, I'm averaging about 1,300 cals per day w/about 70-100gm protein.  It's a real mind bender to up that to a 1,500 average, although I have exceeded that a few times.  When I see that total in my log, it freaks me out - working on that...anyway, what tests would you recommend to determine where my intake should be, other than my trial and error method?  Your expertise in this matter is much appreciated.  Thanks!

Deb

Thanks Trish. Me too.  Hope you have a good trip and a Happy Mother's Day with your Mom.  I'm totally trying those pancakes that were suggested...they sound yummy!

Thanks!!  I've already hit the grocery store and I'm ready to cook up a storm tomorrow.  I'll be giving those pancakes a try tomorrow, it's the first thing I'm cooking!

Honestly, I'd go with trial and error. The thing is, it's all estimates and our calorie burn varies from day to day because no two days are the same. So trial and error is "good enough."

But if you are into numbers and like to track things, the BodyMedia FIT (aka BodyBugg) is really cool and will give you a good indication of your typical range. A single test on a single day can't do that.

Thank you Mac.  I've thought about the BodyBugg and that's probably a better way to go because as you said, every day is different.  Thanks for your input.

P.S.  Yep, I'm totally into numbers and tracking stuff - it's the accountant in me.

Honestly, I would stick with the trial and error.  I eat anywhere between 1200- 1800 cals a day.  Most days, I am somewhere in the 1500 range.  I play with it depending on the scale.  You might need to up it for a while to stop the loss.  This is where you become one big science experiment.  Just track the calories and the weight every day.  It's OK if you overshoot your weight loss goal, you can always put a few pounds back on.  You have got this.

Thanks Elina.  I feel like a big science experiment...LOL!  You and Mac are like EF Hutton.  When you talk, I listen, so thanks for responding.  I appreciate your input.  I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and maybe try to up my average a little again and see if I start to maintain.  My losses are infrequent and slow, but it's still going down so I need to adjust again.  I know it's a moving target but it's so hard to get out of the mindset I was in during the losing phase - under 800 or bust!  This is such a process and I need the weight loss to be permanent.  I'm never going back and I'm not gonna be one of the statistics...thanks for all your help along the way.
