I have had clothes in an online shopping cart for three days.. nice wardrobe builder tops, a pair of linen pants.. stuff like that- all clearance even. Just things to supplement what I have for the summer, and for an upcoming 2 week island trip.. why, why do I have a hard time justifying pulling the trigger on $150 of clothes, when I have no issue going out with my husband and blowing $60+ on sushi and a drink? I will get more use of those clothes than the 30mins of fun eating and chatting.. it's always been like this for me.. I can justify spending the dough on dining out.. Now, we don't dine out often anymore due to budget constraints.. but we have several times this month.. didn't even think about it.

I got the clothes.

I need decent clothes.. and I finally look really good in them. But it is something hard for me to wrap my head around, this not blinking an eye when it comes to food costs, but gasping at the cost of new clothes when shopping (and why are they so much?! Geeze. I am really, really happy to have found a high-end thrift store in town, ugh.) Just pondering here.. anyone have a similar weirdness?

I do the same thing! It makes no sense! So now I'm trying to do better with long-term items (i.e. clothes) and spend less on eating out (once per week max is my goal).

Had the same problem. For months I was wearing the same two pairs of pants to work. They were still 36" waists so they were baggy on me. I should have been wearing either 32" or 34" max. I wore Dress shirts with a tie but no jacket. I stopped wearing suits about two years ago.

Well I finally went out and bought four new Business Suits. Have to admit I look good in them. Only problem now is the folks on the Job aren't use to me wearing full dress suits to work. So everyone thinks I'm interviewing. It's great to keep them guessing.

I'm glad that I did it. It was a real self confidence booster. It's good to spend money on yourself every once in a while. I think we all tend to forget that...We are worth it!!!

Just got home from my fav thrift shop that carries mostly really nice branded stuff with my bestie (who is post op as well, at goal for a while)... and I'm now very comfortably in size 10 jeans, some 8's fit pretty well but snug too! I actually did tear up when I realized several of the shorts and summer cotton pants I tried on and bought were 8's. I'm within spitting distance of SINGLE DIGIT JEANS! I came out with two big bags of very well fitting clothes and had a great time hanging and trying on stuff and laughing with my friend.

I believe when I got those 12's I was less than 5lbs heavier.. 5lbs. Do sizes drop that fast at this stage? If I get into the mid-low 140's like I want.. does this mean I may possibly wind up smaller than an 8?

This is all new territory for me, and I'm LOVING every minute of it!

Edit- looked back, it looks like it was more like 8-9lbs diff, but still..

Yes 5 pounds can drop you down a size. It's really strange. Also dresses with stretch, you can go down a few sizes on those.

It freaks me out to be in a size 2 but I will gladly take it.

How about this one: I have always been a food hoarder. ALWAYS. Whether it was the food on my plate being shoveled into my mouth or a FULLY stocked pantry and a freezer-full of meat... So, now that I eat like a freaking bird, I STILL go FULL TILT grocery shopping like my life depended on it. I mean, my daughter is living with me right now. That's it... just her and me. We have 10 boxes of cereal in the cupboard. ONE box (the Special K Protein) is mine. My daughter even said the other day, "mom, you spend SO much money on food". Is it any wonder that I was obese? It's ridiculous. I need to get my brain wrapped around the fact that I'm not feeding an army anymore (I used to) and that I don't need to buy all this stupid food. (Did I just say "stupid food"?? LOL!!) I've decided I need to only shop for one to two days worth of food at a time, and buy stuff that actually goes with the meat in the freezer!! Ugh. Am I psycho or what??

Nope, I keep a fully stocked freezer with tons of meat & veggies down the basement.. I blame a free membership to Sam's for that. I do like that I can pull off a meal pretty easy, but yeah.. I cook one bird and end up eating on it for the entire week since it's only me & my husband!

Too bad I don't live closer, I could send my vultures (5 kids, varying ages) to your house and your cupboards would be empty is a very short time LOL

I totally get what you're saying and this is my take on it.  When we were obese, we (I) were/was always buying clothes because they fit, because they were hard to find.  I didn't want to spend much money, because I was always going to lose the weight!  Well that mentality stuck for a while, then when I got to 153 and size 6 (I'm almost 5'8"), I bought all kinds of 6's and 8's.  Now with a 15 lb regain the 6's don't fit, Some of the 8's are snug, but wearable and I've given away practically everything bigger.  Now I'm determined to be in a comfy 8 again.  And yes I've found that 10 lbs is a size at this point whereas at 250, I had to lose about 40 lbs to go down a size.

Oh, the years of making limited amounts of clothes work since I didn't want to spend money on them.. with the same thoughts going on- yes! Plus, those large clothes weren't cheap.. and I never could find good selections at thrift when I was big.

I'm fighting the urge now to get more and more clothes.. but not knowing where I'll finally end up, and what the bounceback may bring holds me back (good thing).. So, trying to limit myself to thrift with occasional new stuff that would work over a range- like drawstring linen pants.. that I may end up returning anyway since I found some cool stuff at the store.

Just bagged up another huge trashbag for donation. Also realized my feet are indeed smaller. Went from 9 to 8 or 8.5 depending on style.. so some shoes are in that pile too.. the rest get insoles or the thick sock treatment!
