I guess I'm anemic now. Thoughts? Guidance?

Hi Gail -

Thanks about the point about waiting to go into plastics as best prepared - it's easy for me to lose sight of that when I've been looking forward to it for so many months.  Appreciate the focus.

I understand about being excited about plastics. I would be, if I was scheduled for the next month. Your plastic surgeon may be fine with your values, since they are borderline and not significantly low. Have you spoken with him?

for any lab question I tend to ask MacMadam - who will be around soon, hopefully - or Gina  AKA Major Mom.

couldn't hurt to ask Vitalady, too.

good luck with this.

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

I know MacMadam - but is Vitalady actually on this site?  Somehow I've never seen posts from her?

Yes, I believe she is on the Main and the RNY forum. I reached out to her before and she sent me a vitamin regiment for the Sleeve.

Another person who is great on vitamins is Poet Kelly (mostly on the RNY and Main board).

Hey Mikey - now that you remind me, Poet Kelly does seem to know a lot - I'll reach out to her as well... thanks!

Ruggie, you can make Elina's Chicken Soup with Spinach - alot of spiniach. I did and it didn't taste bitter.

I'm no expert, but those don't look that low. Mine were lower when I was pregnant and focusing on red meat and a simple iron pill with a chewable vitamin C did the trick. Sometimes a lot of iron can make you constipated, so be prepared.

Just make sure you don't take calcium anywhere near your iron - I try to separate them by at least 5 hours, more if I can.

Your hemoglobin should be at 14. You can bring that up with the iron & c. I had surgery at 11 and did just fine, I was 49 yrs old at the time.
Good luck on your 5k run - you can do it.

Ruggie,

I don't think with your numbers they will deny you PS. I won't get into my long and severe anemia story, but after having iron injected into my butt for a YEAR, my values are still lower than yours, like my ferritin was a 3! And now it's a 23 and they cleared me for surgery with a hemoglobin  of 11.5. Don't get too worked up till you talk to the PS. Your ferritin is awesome and that is the building blocks of making new blood.

Hey Pure -

Thanks for sharing the condensed version of your story - sounds like a bad process you had to go through - quite sorry to hear about it.  You've given me some encouragement though, thanks so much... and point out that I should try to relax until I can talk to the surgeon!  Thanks for replying.
