spinal surgery in the works, excess poundage must go!
Hey y'all --
As some of you know, over the past two and a half years I have waged a battle with a spinal fusion that had multiple complications. I managed (was able to work, live alone, and take care of myself), although with a level of disability and pain, until just a couple of months ago when something went terribly wrong. Since March, I have been in horrible pain, barely able to walk with a walker, and not able to work. I spend my days ... and nights ... in my recliner, doped up on narcotics but still hurting like the dickens. My orthopedic surgeon can do nothing more for me.
In the meantime, I've been living on peanut butter crackers and other similar "food" items (and I use the term loosely), because I hurt too much to cook or to care. The advantage is that, of the 30 pounds I had regained since my original back surgery, I have shifted 18 of them. Not healthily though.
Well, yesterday I saw a new surgeon at Emory, and she thinks she can help me!!!! She plans on getting me on her surgery schedule within the next couple of months and said that while I am waiting I can work on getting my body as healthy and strong as I can and that the more weight I can lose the better.
Right! Now I have a reason! Goodbye peanut butter crackers, hello vegetable soup! Lean protein, vegetables, a few complex carbs, and gallons of water. Seems like I recall hearing that food plan before, heh heh.
And I'm looking to buy a recumbent exercise bike.
It is amazing how psyched I can get when I have a REAL reason to get back on the wagon. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers, please, my sleeve friends!

My mom has been in and out of a walker/scooter due to spinal stenosis, and I have spinal arthritis with spurs and almost no disc left between two neck vertebra.. not fun!

Dorothy:
I had no idea that you have been going through all of this. I knew that you had some health issues that lead to an icecream induced regain but this really tells of the much bigger story.
There is another member on here..sleevegirl..she just had an unexoected spinal surgery...and I was so moved by what she went through I sent her some really special post op Maryland crab food treats.
Im so glad there is a ray of HOPE and HEALTH in your near future!!
If you are a lover of the seafood please PM and I will make sure you get a wonderful care package...
Until then get your body as ready and healthy as possible.
My prayers are with you!
