Off the wagon, crawling back

My weight ticker tells the story. The gory details:

Dr. C's goal for me was 175; I reached a low of 205 in August, almost exactly a year from surgery. I got sloppy and careless, got that "I'm done with all this discipline, home free" feeling, even though I knew better. And my weight began to creep up. By my September appointment with Dr. C, I was at 217 - he was remarkably gentle about it, which may have been part of why I didn't worry too much, he even suggested that some bounce-back was normal. By my next appointment, March 21, I was at 224, and I saw his assistant, who said that this was the limit, I needed to turn it around and never let it get above 225. Today I sit at 231, a total gain of 26 lbs from my low; and at 56 lbs over goal.

What happened? Carbs; alcohol; failure to track. Over the holidays I became used to having a glass of wine almost every day. This habit became the new normal. Every 5 oz glass of wine is 129 calories and 4g carbs; and makes munching on something with the wine easy at a time of low and compromised self control. Sweets crept back into my daily routine - dark chocolate is good for your heart, right... and my Silicon Valley company, they have Perugina chocolates at the espresso stand right there in the lobby in my office building and in the cafeteria at lunctime all the desserts are beautiful and made with organic ingredients.. but a carb is a carb is a carb.

So. the battle plan, per General Elina's advice

daily calorie max 900

Protein 95 = 380 cal, Carbs 40 = 160 cal, Fat 40 = 360 cal
Meals - Protein g and calories -
Morning - coffee 5g protein 100,  protein shake  - 40 g 160
Midday - lunch 15 g  250
Mid afternoon - snack 10 g 100
Evening - dinner 15 g 200
Late evening - snack 10g 90

Water = 64 oz

Exercise is actually pretty decent, I am at the gym three times a week doing a mix of cardio and strength; and I'm on my bike twice a week running our dog and then just riding for cardio. I enjoy this and just need to keep it going.

I'll be tracking with MFP, weighing in here every day and reporting on progress, and showing up to as many events as I can...

I am proud of you and I am here for you if/when you need me.  I like your plan and I am sure it will work if you work it.  What I would like to see is the actual foods and amounts you are planning to eat pre-planned every day.  The excuses usually come in when there is a lack of a detailed plan.  You might consider sitting down and writing a food plan for the week and then sticking to it.  You are right to get a hold of this now.  Come to the next support group meeting if you can.

welcome back. You are not crawling. You are marching right in and facing this issue. Food tracking is probably the single best thing you can do so its good to hear you are adding that in.

Not sure if you know my husband "Shrinking Nerd" had wls in November with dr. C and is doing well. He tracks on MFP along with my sleeved brother Roundater so you might friend them on MFP to have some buddies. Hubby does this all on his ipad of course.

If you read through the older posts on this group you will see lots of folks who have done what you are doing and come out well after a bump in the road. You will too.   Diane

Half the battle is realizing that you fell off the wagon. Glad that you realized it and your back on again.

WIth the General's plan in hand i'm sure you'll be at goal soon. Your more than half way to winning the war.

Hey, don't think we've interacted before, but wanted to encourage you and wish you success on getting back on track!  Elina is an amazing guru.  Only comment I might have is that 64 oz liquid is minimum - be sure to get even more in on the days that you're exercising.  But Cirangle's high-protein / low-carb / don't eat crap / keep up water advice has gotten me through every stall. :)

Is there a support group you can regularlly attend?  I found they helped to keep me 'faithful' - I always wanted to show up the next time with more weight lost, plus I always pick up great ideas that I wouldn't have discovered alone.

Thanks, Ruggle. Anyone who gives Frisco hell on this site gets high marks in my book :). Yes, there's a support group - the local Cirangle circle, plus several others. Water is a weak place for me.

Today, for example - I am at 8:15 pm with only about 50 ounces in.

Ah, perhaps I'll get to meet you soon then, trying real hard to attend the next SJ support meeting, so I can finally meet "the legends" like Elina, Frisco, Jimbo, etc.

Can I suggest putting your drinking on a schedule too? That's what worked for me and now it has become a habit. Get yourself a 16 oz drinking receptacle and try this:

Meals - Protein g and calories -
Morning - coffee 5g protein 100,  protein shake  - 40 g 160
 - 16 oz of water/clear sugar free fluid
Midday - lunch 15 g  250
 - 16 oz of water/clear sugar free fluid
Mid afternoon - snack 10 g 100
 - 16 oz of water/clear sugar free fluid
Evening - dinner 15 g 200
 - 16 oz of water/clear sugar free fluid
Late evening - snack 10g 90
 - 16 oz of water/clear sugar free fluid

Sounds like you've got your head back in the game. Sometimes that's half the battle.
