What are some of your "go to" foods that combat evening hunger?
"They" say a lot of things when it comes to dieting. But most dieting advice is pretty mediocre and not based on doing studies to see what really works.
For example, there is a study showing that it really doesn't matter when you eat your calories, that it only matters how many you eat over the course of 24 hours. So the advice to not eat after 7pm (or 8 or 9 or whatever arbitrary number the advice giver throws out) is not advice based on evidence but is what I call "common sensical" as in seems like "common sense" but is actually nonsensical.
Plus the "X, Y and Z is what made me fat" statements drive me a bit crazy. First of all, most of the time it isn't true and secondly everyone gets fat in different ways. The only truism is that you get fat because you eat more calories than you burn. HOW and WHY you eat those extra calories and what those extra calories are made up of varies wildly.

Patty, you wrote this to someone else a while back and included the brand and where you bought it, but I could never find the post again. Can you tell me again what it was? I even looked it up at the time and saw that it was gluten free, so it is something I can have. But, I didn't save the pageso please, can you share that info again? Thank you!
I use Nashua Nutrition's Healthsmart. It's sold under other names too. When I get it from my bariatric program, it's called Healthwise instead.

I see that many of you save some calories for the evening. I have a hard time doing that because I eat early in the morning, lunch is early, then dinner is early and I am out of calories way earlier than I would like to be. It was really great to have that 50 extra calories last night, and after eating that soup, I went right to sleep and slept like a baby.
Here's what I am doing today.
1. I worked out first thing this morning, and then did not eat for an hour and a half after the work-out, I'm drinking a protein shake right now, and it's 1030 hrs in the morning. Which should make lunch later and dinner later.
2. I cut some calories in my shake so that I have some leftover for this evening. Instead of putting a 1/4 banana in the shake, I put in 1 TBSP of PB2, instead of using milk, I used unsweetened coconut milk, and added an extra 1/2 scoop of protein powder. calories are 179 with 30 grams of protein, and 5 grams of carbs. I'll cut calories in lunch and dinner as well.
Let's just see if it sticks to my ribs. That 1/4 of a banana in the shake really stuck to my ribs, However, it added an extra 8 grams of carbs. I hope I can stay satisfied until lunch.
3. Veggies are my best friend in the evening, as well as the suggestions you guys give me.
Yes, I take a PPI, but, I have never lost my hunger post-op. So, like others, I have to strategize to combat it. I can do this!!!!
Please keep the ideas coming! Thank you so much!

The hour after working out, is the window of opportunity to get the protein into your muscles, which helps to preserve your muscle mass, so that it isn't used for energy. Drink your protein shake within an hour of finishing your workout. You should also have eaten something prior to your workout.

I have read a lot on the subject and the thinking is, to eat after working out to replenish your glycogen and protein stores. When you are doing aerobics, you burn calories for that time only, and use some of your glycogen stores, which can be replenshed with some carbs (doesn't have to be a lot, if you have only exercised for an hour). When you lift weights, you do burn more calories for a few hours after working out and with more muscle mass you will burn more calories at rest, so the total caloric burn is greater. If you don't replenish your body with protein after working out, your protein stores or muscles will be used for energy before fat. That is the common school of thought. So, if you have a protein shake with some carbs, your body will use that, instead of your muscle tissue. Protein helps to preserve the lean muscle mass, so that your fat stores can be used for energy.
