Stomach pain

 Hi All,

It's been a while since I've been on - so much has been happening, but I am hoping someone might have some insight to my stomach concerns.

Quick recap: Had surgery 12/29/10 mostly due to infertility and just unhappiness with my size.  I have been in love with my sleeve since Day 1.  This has worked so well for me and I'm more than happy with the results.  I lost 90 lbs by Sept 2011 and tried IVF for the 4th time. Being thinner agreed with me and I got pregnant - really pregnant - with fraternal triplet daughters.  I was doing great!  My daughters did not like protein like I did (threw up every time I ate eggs) but were happy when I added more carbs into my diet.  And even with that addition, I did so well.  At 5 months pregnant, I had only gained 10lbs but the babies were growing wonderfully.  Unfortunately, on Xmas night, my water broke and after a 2 week fight, by Jan 6th, I had lost all 3 :(  It's been a tough couple of months but I'm finally having more good days than bad and will try IVF again in the next few months.  When I had VSG, they also did a hiatal hernia repair - they found it during the pre-op endoscopy - and I was surprised b/c I never had any symptoms of one. During my pregnancy, as everything in my abdomen was pushed upward, I started to get some stomach pain and reflux.  Since losing the girls, I've had intermittant abdominal pain and reflux.  I'll go on prilosec for a while, things will be better and then wean off.

My concern:  in the last 2 weeks, I've had 3 really horrible bouts of stomach pain about 30-45 mins after eating. The pain is at my stomach, right where your ribs come together (below where the sternum ends) and the pain wraps around my lower ribs and into my back - it's like a tight painful band.  Tums, prilosec and advil do not help the pain when this happens and it lasts a few hours.  Since I never really had reflux with my hiatal hernia before, I don't have anything to compare this to.  My thoughts are - is this severe reflux?  Is this a return of a hiatal hernia?  Could these be gallbladder attacks?  I have a call into my Dr and am awaiting a callback, but i wanted to see if anyone had ever had pain like this before.  Just wanted to see if it could be something other than the things I am suspecting.  Thank you in advance for any insight you have!  I am currently down 109lbs - 9 lbs lower than my original goal weight and am in maintenance mode.  I'm really happy at this weight - and my body seems comfortable and stays here easily. I love my sleeve!

My very first thought is that you are having a gallbladder attack.
Good luck and keep us posted.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your girls. ((((((hugs)))))

As far as your pain goes.  I would bet it is Gallbladder attacks.  I had to have mine out at around the 6 month post-op mark.  Your symptoms are real familiar to me.

I am so sorry for your loss, I am praying for you.
After weight loss, I had terrible pain just like what you are describing, and had to have my gallbladder removed. I have done very well since then, but the pain was really awful!!! Mine was so unbearable, that I was forced to go to the ER. That is what led to the diagnosis and subsequent surgery.
Congratulations on your weight loss and maintenence.

Wishing you all the best, Carol
count your blessings!!!!   At goal weight.   I am 5 ft 3.

Sounds just like my gall bladder that had to come out 3 months after VSG.

Some people might not support my WLS decision.
Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.
