Just The Right Amount of Wrong !

I'm Asian......gave up Rice and Noodles........ I'm American, Born and Raised......gave up Rice, Noodles, Bread, Pasta, Potatoes, Tortillas and all things Carb rich......

Well....not gave up like in WL.....but Very Limited in Maintenance.....and....I'm OK with it.....

I have been rewarded for these limitations......good trade in my book.....not fair.....but I'll take the trade any day.

Same with Desserts in general......Very Limited in Maintanance...... a few bites here and there and I'm all good.... It doesn't seem to wake up any Monsters hiding within....

So........Disclosure......

I never gave up Mayonnaise.... It was very very very limited during WL, but in Maintenance I use it pretty freely.... I'm not talking gobs of the stuff.....but I've pushed it with the stuff and it has worked out so far. I know I'm playing with a little fire..... but what else is new.

Mayo....and I'm talking full fat real Mayonnaise, not the foul lighter/no fat versions with other fillers or that Nasty Miracle Whip. (Somebody here introduced me to Dukes.....ahhhh nice!)

Mayo has the ability (for me) to make just about anything taste a little better and it lubes the food really good. No.... not every meal.... just when it makes a difference.

I'm down with the Greek Yogurt and I have come up with some great concoctions based with Greek Yogurt..... It is very versatile stuff..... but it's not always a Mayo replacement.

Chocolate..... Dark Chocolate.....I've been eating it regularly for almost a year now....not much..... an ounce max.

I probably should be eating more food food......But....

I'm always ready to adjust, I'm expecting this to be a moving target as time goes on.....

But for now it seems to be "Just the Right Amount of Wrong" (Cosmopolitan LV Slogan)

Ditto, Frisco.  I remember when I first had my surgery there was a gal on the VSG board who was from Europe -- Scandanavian, I believe -- who only ate real food.  No lite stuff, no sugar-free stuff.  It really hit me as the way I wanted to do, too.  (Now I'm not criticizing anyone who takes a different approach.  We all need to find what works for us.)

In thinking it through, I realized that I never had a weight problem until I started trying to lose weight! I was maybe five pounds overweight in college and started restricting my food a little bit.  Didn't lose a pound but started bingeing occasionally.  Pretty soon I was 20 pounds overweight and started trying low fat stuff, diet stuff, etc.  Pretty soon I was 40 pounds overweight... and on and on.  The more diet food I ate, the more I binged and the more weight I gained.  It just doesn't satisfy like real food does.

So once I lost my weight this time, I swore off fake food.  Just think back 40 years in this country -- we didn't really have a national weight problem back then when we ate real food.  Of course, there are other factors as well, but that one slaps me in the face.

Thanks for your post, Frisco ... and I eat Duke's, too :-)

Lol! I put Duke's and Hellman's to the taste test about a year ago- yeah, I love Duke's more.

I have always been a full-fat person, for me- it was the starches that did me in.. the breads, pasta and rice.. with fat especially.. the combo of those two together is metabolic hell for the body. In WL, I use mayo, sometimes if I know I'll be up higher in cals later, I'll do half GY & mayo just to save a little in my tab since I am in WL mode. But, fat has never been the cause of gains for me.. everything in moderation though, I'm not eating the stuff with a spoon :)

Thanks for more Frisco Observations from the Other Side (of WL)! Adding this to my points to ponder as I formulate my plan for maintenance style eating.

"but it's not always a Mayo replacement."

Um, yes, Greek Yogurt is ALWAYS a Mayo replacement! (Full disclosure: I don't like mayo -- something about the texture, I think.)

Anyway, I think people here are fully aware by this point of my "there are no bad foods" philosophy of life. It's all choices and some are better than others but what is the best choice changes constantly depending on what else is going on with your day.

Ok Frisco, you haven't lived until you have made your own  homemade mayonaise. Here is an excellent recipe from The Silver Palatte Cookbook:

2 egg yolks
1 whole egg
1 tbs dijon mustard
pinch of salt and pepper
1/4 c fresh lemon juice
2 cups corn or vegetable or high quality olive oil

combine everything except oil in food processor for one minute.

with motor running dribble in the oil slowly until all is combined.

will keep safely refrigerated for 5 days.  You might only want to make a half recipe at most.

This stuff is to die for but gotta be careful as it has uncooked eggs.  I don't eat real mayo much anymore but I do real half and half and real cheese and most other real foods. You are right that a little goes a long way. When I was fat I would often eat a lot of something that wasn't all that good - I think looking for flavor or enjoyment that just wasn't there. Dumb.

You guys are soooo wise.  It makes me smile to come to this forum...Thanks for the recipe Diane.  I'm sure that's dangerous and positively yummy!  On the "real food" topic, I've been eating it throughout my journey (once I got past liquids and SF Fudgesicles LOL).  As far as I'm concerned "low fat" means high sugar and "low carb" means high fat so what's the freaking difference?  We're gonna get all that stuff anyway so I prefer as many unaltered unadulterated foods as I can fit into my plan...

Happy Easter Everyone!!!

I'm a real girl.  Maybe that's why it took me so long to get to goal. Who knows. But now I'm not making very many changes except more of the occasional treats.  If I hit my up two pound comfort range I'm able to pull it right back.  I'm willing to make changes if this becomes more difficult as I get further post op.  For today it seems to be working for me.

I've never been a mayo fan except in mama's cole slaw or potato salad. I do love half in half in my morning cup of decaf.

Real butter, real cheese, you bet.

Speaking of half and half... I don't quite get what it is.

I thought it was half milk,  half cream but isn't that just ... milk? But with slightly more fat than "whole" milk, of course.

Then I see on the shelf at the grocery ... FAT FREE Half & Half! And I'm all WFT? Isn't that just .... skim milk?

Clearly I'm missing something here, probably because  I'm not a coffee drinker.
