Home!
I'm home, feeling like I got run over by a truck and up TEN POUNDS (!!!!) from all the liquids they pumped into me. Considering I haven't had a bite of solid food for 3 days now, that had BETTER go away quickly, lol.
Surgery went fine, though it took a lot longer (4 hours) than Dr. C had anticipated and was a more complicated fix. He said he thinks I will have a good outcome, but we won't know for a while as he wants me to stay on protonix for another month. He said that despite all meds I've been taking, I still had a very irritated esophagus and he wants to let it heal.
Thanks for all the good wishes!

Lizanne, Wishing you a speedy recovery!!! The pounds will come off and at least you won't be at risk for dehydration for while. :). I am swinging my four cats for you to be rid of the acid problem, once and for all.
My pcp just switched me to a Protonix suspension (granules) to see, if my acid can get under better control. The generic wasn't working for me at all.

Not by much, if any. He took a couple of stitches at the top, more as a preventive measure to keep it from expanding. No changes along the length. So far I don't feel any additional restriction, but I'm still on liquids, so it's too soon to tell...He did say that he suspected that I had some delayed emptying into my stomach, that food was actually staying in the esophagus because of the hernia. I hope that doesn't mean that I'm going to start feeling hungry more often!

My symptoms were pretty much the same as yours--persistent acid even when taking a double dose of PPI daily (Protonix). My endocrinologist was really pushing me to get off of them as they interfere with calcium absorption, and I'm borderline osteoporotic. They also interfere with magnesium and iron, apparently, so they're really not good to be on long term. Have you had an upper GI to see what's going on?
