Mikey......

You are the poster child for VSG......I am always impressed with your approach and understanding. You never wavered in your commitment and compliance.

The relationship that you have with your surgeon has no doubt benefited you both and the results reflect you both.

You have been Solid as a Rock and I'm glad we share this part of our lives together..... I sometimes think of our group with similar surgery dates as a fraternity of sort......Same graduating class type of thing !!!!

Pretty awesome group !!!!

Way to go Mikey !!!

I keep thinking about "

He told me that he has changed his stance on NSAIDS. He told me not to take them. He said there have been recent findings that NSAIDS can cause issues with the sleeve. He said the chance of developing an ulcer is the same as if you didn't have gastric surgery. But if an ulcer develops on the staple line it could cause a leak. He said he had a patient who ended up with a leak 9 months after surgery.

I always thought that when we were fully healed the staple line was as strong as the rest of your stomach, have other people heard of this?  It make me kind of nervous

I heard the same thing from my surgeon during pre-op and from the bariatric internist who follows people after surgery. The internist told me that I would probably have to be on a PPI or acid reducer long term due to the need of having to take 2 baby ASA's per day. The risk of ulcers in sleeve patients is the same as non-sleeve patients, but the risk of ulceration along the staple line is not to be taken lightly. During pre-op the surgeon also said that if people needed to take NSAIDs, they would need to be on acid reducers or PPI's to decrease the risk of ulcers.

This is news to me, but I guess I'm not in too much danger as I don't do many nsaids and do take a ppi every day.  Thanks for the response!

As a standard practice my doctor has all of his patients take Nexium starting two week prior to surgery until 6 months after surgery.

Six months after my surgery he also started all of his new patients on Carafate. I believe it's for the same time period.

He did tell me that the patient that developed the leak was still on Nexium and Carafate.

I have bad reflux (and did before surgery).  I take two Nexium a day and woke up last night with that acid rising up to my mouth.  It makes me kinda nervous!
