Thanks, Frisco. I sure wouldn't be doing this just to tighten the sleeve, that's for sure. Tonight for dinner I could only eat less than half a pork chop and some veg so my restriction is still really good and I'm in a groove with it. But Dr. C is an artiste and I think it's dilated a little at the top where he now does things a bit differently. I just hope he can fix the hiatal hernia!!!!

Yes, PLEASE tell him to get a good night's sleep from me tomorrow night! (And he may know me only as Elizabeth rather than Lizanne--the former being my "formal" name!)

Just a guess.....but it sounds like besides going at your hiatal hernia, he is going to be working on your flow of food........

I had him fix my Inguinal hernia about 6 months ago....he really is in his element in the OR.... your gonna be fine !

Hey Liz.  So your hernia came back??  I didn't know that could happen.  I also had mine repaired during my VSG but I still suffer from reflux.  I'm so sick of taking this PPI, but can't get away from it.  Maybe I need to get checked out.

Good luck on Thursday!!

Yes, they can come back, but in my case, it wasn't repaired at the time of surgery--either it was missed or it happened post surgery. But repairing a hiatal hernia post vsg is much harder because the standard fix where they wrap part of the stomach around the area can't be done anymore since we don't have enough tissue. So in my case, I had a 2nd surgery with Dr. Jossart in 2009 to fix the thing. I never got any relief because even though the hernia was technically gone, the valve wasn't closing so acid was still coming up. Anyway, now the hernia has come back as well, so Dr. Cirangle is going to try again, being more aggressive about reconstructing the valve as much as possible. He doesn't think he can fix it entirely but I hope to get some improvement as I've been taking a double dose of PPI for a looonnng time and then is really NOT good for you. In your case, since the hernia was originally repaired at the time of surgery, you probably have enough tissue to fix it again if it has recurred. The best way to tell is with an upper GI, which is better than an endoscopy at seeing them (I had both...) It's an easy test and at least you'd know!

Thanks for the info Liz...good luck.  I hope you can get off that nasty medicine.  I know it's not good to take it forever and I've been on it now for over 3 years.  I'll have to ckeck into this further.
