Surgery Thursday
Just talked to Dr. Cirangle and I'm scheduled for my hiatal hernia repair Thursday a.m. in SF. Let the nervousness begin. And the dread of 10-14 days of liquids-only following the surgery. Since the darn thing has recurred, he is being much more aggressive in his approach than Dr. Jossart was when he fixed it ...

He will see when he gets in there. The procedure he is planning to do will use some stomach tissue so it just depends. I told him to go for whatever he thinks is best, but it makes me a bit nervous, since I really do still have excellent restriction. But what he said is that he would like to take my capacity down a little, from my current 4 oz. to 2 1/2 to 3 oz. (which seems very small!) So we'll see...
Thanks!

You are in the best hands possible. I will be thinking of you and sending you positive energy all day Thursday. I can understand why you are a bit nervous about a smaller capacity especially since you have figure this out now and are maintaining just fine. On the other hand, I would love to have a smaller capacity as mine is also about four ounces and three sounds better to me. You will do just fine and I think you are right to trust him. I will see him on Wednesday and tell him to take extra good care of you or else. :) Just kidding.
Thanks, Elina! Yes, by all means tell him to take care of me or else
I think I'm just nervous because when I spoke to him today and all the other people who were calling to get it set up, it started sounding like a bigger deal than he first made it sound. But I absolutely do trust him and just need to keep reminding myself how WONDERFUL it will be to have some improvement in the GERD...

You know Lizanne, the truth is, it is a big deal. Anytime you have surgery under general anesthesia, it's a big deal. However, as you know, you have the very best doctor possible doing this and I would trust him with my family members if I needed to do so. You will probably not feel so great for a while after surgery, so I hope you are mentally prepared for this, but I am sure that in the long run, you will feel that this was the right thing to do. I wish I could just give you a big hug. Don't minimize it but know that the odds are all with you.
