I need sensible advice on slowing down the loss
I am just a couple pounds from goal, but I need to lose one extra pound to be at a normal BMI . My Dr said stop at 170 but my Hepatologist said stop at normal BMI. So whats a pound? I have already increased my calories to 1100 and my carbs are at 60 and I am still losing about 2-3 lbs a week then after about 7 lbs it stops for a month then I repeat the process. I am 5' 8.5" tall so even at 172 I look thinner than I actually am. I still am wearing a size 14 pants sometimes a 12 if they are more expensive, a large in blouses. I could go down another 20 lbs before I would be out of normal BMI and into an underweight situation but I don't really want to go there. I would prefer to stay at between 160 and 170. So how do you get the loss to stop where you want it considering your stomach only holds so much but without using the demon foods (sweets, starches etc) to counter balance? I have no Bariatric Dr at this time to consult as he quit me at my 3 month check up. Only my GP and my Hepa. Thanks for any guidance you can provide.
Congrats on your success. I had this issue of losing too much but now I could gain easily if I didn'****ch it. You just have to up your calories 100 or so every wee****il you stop losing. Don't use sugar and white carbs. Do peanut butter, nuts, avocado, 1% milk, fruit and similar things. Peanut butter and almond butter did it for me. Keep weighing and journaling until you get to your right number. And recognize that a few pounds up and down is normal. Diane
Thank you so much, I had not thought of peanut butter or that type of thing. I rarely eat anything white so that is not a problem for me. But I have heard of people who get to this point and start eating things like cupcakes and candy and etc etc. I KNOW if I eat that stuff it will start me on a roll much like what got me where I was at 281 lbs. I am thinner now than I was when I met my husband almost 30 years ago. In fact last year we renewed our vows at church and I couldn't fit into my wedding gown, now its too big . If we make it another 9 years perhaps I will wear it then.
I just want to add my opinion that in the long run, going down is a lot harder than going up, so I would go as low as you feel comfortable with the understanding that you will most likely bounce up 5-15 pounds. You can always stop the weight loss by adding nuts, nut butter, avocados, butter, and full fat dairy into your diet. I would stay away from carbs even if you want to gain some weight back.
Great advice. I stay away from butter and full fat foods because I have colestrol problems (my colestrol is over 400) But I can eat good fat items like avocados, nuts etc. I just have to watch the animal fats. I might rethink it and go down to 160 just for the padding. My hepatologist is all for the lower end of the BMI but my GP is not. So maybe I should just find a place somewhere inbetween the two of them...

I have used the red rice yeast etc and the perscription meds but found out that since I have liver disease my colestrol will never go down until I have transplant. My gall bladder does not work correctly to remove the fats etc from my blood. This is the major reason I had VSG. They will not do a transplant if I am not a normal BMI. The risk is too high.
