X-Post: My 2-year surgiversary!

Yesterday was my two-year surgiversary, and even though I'm almost never here any more I thought I would pop in and report on life on the other side.  I was a lightweight when I had the surgery, but I had struggled with my weight for more than 40 years and in all that time I had never gone more than a few weeks without hating myself or obsessing about my weight, food, and eating.

What are things like now?  Well, it's crazy because on the one hand nothing has changed at all.  I am still me, with all my same quirks and challenges and foibles.  Life is exactly the same.  And yet... on the other hand everything is completely different.  Now that I am thin, everything really IS different and better and the dream really has come true.  I live both of those conflicting realities, each 100% present, each and every day.  It's crazy but I've gotten kind of used to it.

And while we're talking about the "everything really is different and better" part, here are some of the ways my life has changed:

I go to the gym 6 days out of 7 and LOVE working out -- and my trainer is one of my best friends
I don't obsess about food any more, and I'm not ashamed or embarassed to eat in front of others
I still have good restriction and I LOVE being the girl with the tiny appetite
I love shopping for clothes now that I'm a size 2 and everything looks great on me

If you are contemplating having a VSG, my message to you is "go for it!"  My one and only regret is that this surgery wasn't available 20 years ago!

Oh, and here's a photo of me last month in New York with my handsome Marine son.  Gotta love those size 2 skinny jeans!

Congratulations on your success!!! You look wonderful in your size 2 skinny jeans and boots, standing next to your handsome son. Way to rock your sleeve. It is so inspiring to see such success.

You know you were one of the posters i followed

1 because you were a lightweight also and
2 because you fought tooth and nail for every ounce you lost

and when i get discouraged at my slow weight loss i look back on your old postings and it makes everything better.  Congrats on your maintenance, those size 2 jeans and that handsome son. you are an inspiration.

You are more than welcome, your posts have come to my aid many times. I started at 188. Ive lost 48lbs in 7 months and i have another 35 to lose.  It's definitely frustrating but it's linear and I've finally started to believe that my weight loss is not going to stop completely (my biggest fear since it's so slow) and that i just will stop counting time and keep on trucking.  You are living testiment that slow and steady gets there.

Absolutely!  I think you are losing exactly at the same pace I was!  I had a month or two around months 8 or 9 when it slowed to a crawl and I was deathly afraid it was going to stop, but then it picked up again and I made it all the way to my goal!  Exercise really helped, too, plus I turned into a total exercise addict, which was quite a surprise!

Hang in there and you will make it!

Congratulations!  Love those two words...size two!  I, too, live with "conflicting realities" because I'm a very black and white person.  I'm learning how to deal with it.  You're absolutely beaming in your picture!!!
