Does anyone do Weigh****chers while in maintenance???

Hi,

I have been going to Weigh****chers meetings since last fall. My surgery was 7/6/11. I decided to go to meetings to have long term support and accountability. I have basically followed my surgeon's plan with high protein, and now that I am in "maintenance" I have added more whole grains, fruit, etc - with occasional treat. I am still losing about .5-2# per week, depending on when I weigh in. I have noticed if I haven't taken in as much water the day before I seem to retain 1-2# (I weigh daily at home), but once I drink my water it comes right off.

I was just curious if others have had success doing this as well? Since I am so early out, I am still counting my carbs and looked on Atkins and saw in his mainteance 80-100 carbs should be about the mainteance level. I am usually in that level, once in a great while higher. My protein is always 90-110 daily.

Thanks for your input!!!

I started going to WW after my first surgiversary.  I made a commitment to myself to always go so that I am honest about my weight.  I weigh daily at home, but it would be easy to go into denial or start hiding if the scale started creeping up. I'm crazy enough that I even went to the pharmacy every morning in Spain and got on the scale.  I hit my WW Lifetime goal at a meeting in Sevilla Spain.  That was fun!  Weight regain is a frightening thought and I figured that I could use all the help I can get in keeping this weight off.  I happen to adore my leader because he talks about the head, heart, stomach connection of why we eat.

I haven't followed the WW plan because I'm more interested in calories/carbs/protein/sodium, so I use myfitnesspal for that.  I've been tracking on that plan since before my surgery so I can look back and see what works, and what doesn't work for me.

I think my carbs still come in under 40-50 most days but there are some days that they are higher.  I think it always balances out.  I shoot for 80+ in protein and feel good when it's higher.  I track sodium because I know that after a chinese dinner of 1 cup of food, I'll be up 1-2 pounds in the morning, plus the sodium makes me feel so puffy and I don't like it.

Thanks for the response. I also track onmyfitnesspal and lime to see where my carbs and protein are. I track both places.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who felt WW was a good support for life.

Thank you!

A WLS friend who had RNY and had a regain, is doing great with WW.  She's lost close to 20 lbs. since November.  Best wishes!  We all need support.

Janet - thanks for the support. I also "googled" Dr Stapleton as I was curious who she is and I think I may buy her book!

I need all the support I can get!

I've been with WW for years.  I've lost 50, gained 50, lost fifty, gained... you get the picture.  Anyway, I stayed with them after my WL surgery, though I didn't tell anyone about it.  I just sit quietly at the meetings rather then announce my weekly lose, since I really don't want to discourage anyone who is struggling to lose weight the old fashioned way.  I don't follow the points thing.  I count carbs, protein and calories.  I need the accountability.  I have been lifetime for about a year now.  I've had a 10 lb regain, so I probably should stay for the meetings and get back in the groove.  Fortunately, I lost 13 lbs below my WW goal, so I've been able to stay lifetime.  You need to find what works for you and hang in there.  Good luck.
Highest weight ever recorded: 224lbs.    Surgery weight: 194 lbs.
Goal range:  130-135 lbs.

Thanks Marie - you sound just like me. I first joined WW when I was in elementary school in the 1960's. Liver was required - ugh!

I do still count my protein & carbs, but also count my points. I originally set my goal at 146, cause that was the highest end for me, but am at 140.8 now, so my leader said I can reset my goal when I weigh in again so I am going to make it 140 or 142 (I have to be within 2# either way). I would like to get down to 130-135 (that was my fantasy weight) in case I do have some re-bound gain.

The meetings have really helped me for support and how to handle things.

Thanks for sharing your experience with me.

I'm not maintenance but I use a lot of my old WW recipes because I find they fit my program pretty well - high protein, low carb/fat. I love the skinnytaste.com blog for good recipes.
