It depends. If the yogurt is flavored, usually the carbs and sugar content are higher. Compare the flavored with the plain and see what the difference might be.

Yogurt is a tricky one. A lot of types of yogurts are basically carbs and sugar. But some have really good stats. So you really have to read the labels.

For example, today I saw a yogurt in the store labeled "Greek Yogurt 2x the protein of regular yogurt" by Yoplait. So I pick up the container and look at the label. It only had 8 grams of protein in 4 oz. compared to FAGE that has 12 g. Plus, I didn't remember regular Yoplait having only 4g of protein per serving. So I picked up a regular Yoplait and it had 5g of protein.

So basically, they are a bunch of liars trying to cash in on the Greek yogurt fad! Phooey to them!

Yes! There are several who are trying to ride that bandwagon as impostors. So important to read the label. Lucerne is one who just adds cornstarch to it's regular yogurt just to make it appear thick!

I'm a cottage cheese girl myself.  I can't see past the carbs in any yogurt.  My store brand Cottage Cheese has 14 gms protein in 4 ounces, and only 80 calories, and 5 carbs.  I can do all the add-ons you all mentioned, but generally stick to cinnamon and maybe a bit of berries or apple.  Ymmmm.

I think cottage cheese is a wonderful protein food, but so is Non-fat Plain Greek yogurt. NF GY has about 18 grams of protein and 7 carbs, 100 calories  in 6-7 ounces. The yogurt with fruit, contains more sugar and carbs, but not the NF Plain versions. Sometimes, I will even mix cottage cheese and GY together.

when I read the title of your thread I thought, boy that's right. some are good food and more are junky desserts. when I am in the store I have trouble finding any greek yogurt but fat free or full fat and it all has either TONS of sugar or fake sugar.

gotta buy plain so I can add a little honey.  but I sure would love full fat!

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

Patty -- I have Greek yogurt everyday to try and keep my protein up with the pregnancy... Chobani is by far my favorite!   :-)  Amy

My daily breakfast is 4 oz 2% cottage cheese, 4 oz 0% Fage, 1/2 c blueberries, and a little SF Torani hazelnut syrup.  (I mix in some Carlson's lemon flavored fish oil too.) Yummo, and a protein powerhouse.  It's my favorite meal of the day!
